Bourgoine Wins Road Course, Beaulieu and Buffington Crowned Champions

As the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season came to a close this past Saturday, you could feel the energy in the pit area as the drivers were preparing for one last shot at a victory before retiring their vehicles for the winter. This time however, the tour was back on the road course at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Shaun Buffington, who came into this race undefeated on the road course, was quickest in practice. The field was realigned after the top eight drivers were inverted and the 18 car Legends field took the track for the final time of the 2011 season.

The 99 of Mike Alton led the field to the green flag with the 399 of Bob Weymouth on his outside. As the field went through the first few corners, debris on the track brought out the first yellow flag. The field realigned and went green for the second time. Alton got a good jump but it was Weymouth who got the lead after the first few corners. On the second lap, the 23 of Shawn Buffington lost his brakes heading into turn four, which lead him to make contact with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu. Beaulieu was able to continue on, but Buffington saw his day end early.

On the restart, Weymouth led the field to the green, but it didn’t take long before the 38 of Matt Bourgoine overtook him for the race lead. Around the halfway point the 20 of Taylor Martin spun in the downhill section of the track and was stuck in the grass, forcing the full course yellow.
On the final restart of the race, Bourgoine once again got the jump and took off. However, the 79 of Max Zachem was right on him in the race for the win. At the end, it was all Bourgoine as he showed his skill on the road course and pulled away to take the victory. Beaulieu raced his way from the rear of the field to finish second in a thrilling race with Zachem who settled for third. Rookie Reid Lanpher and Tom Gray rounded out the top five.

Ironically enough, even after their incident, both Beaulieu and Buffington were crowned champions after the event. Evan Beaulieu solidified the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour championship in his fourth full season of racing Legend Cars. Shawn Buffington captured the NHMS championship with his dominating season on both the quarter mile oval and the 1.6 mile road course. This was a season to remember, as many drivers found victory lane, and it was one of the most competitive in the tour’s history. The tour would like to thank its competitors, fans, and sponsors for a successful 2011 season, and to keep updated over the offseason, and how to get involved before opening day in 2012, visit Nelcar.net.

Buffington Takes Sylvania 300 Pre Race Victory!

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour made a return to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Sylvania 300 Nascar Sprint Cup Series event. This race was huge not only because it had only the best of the best in New England in this invitational only event, but also because it marked a year since the first event for Legends Cars at “The Magic Mile.” Although the racing is much different than most drivers in the North East are used too, they have adapted well and put on a great show for the thousands who packed into the seats. Those fans were treated to a spectacular race as the drivers took to the quarter mile as the pre race for the Sylvania 300.

The 25 lap feature lineup was determined from practice speeds, and the 18 of Tom Gray took the top spot with his teammate Shawn Buffington in the 23 on the outside. On the start, the two drove side by side for the first few laps, with Buffington able to get the lead around the outside with Gray, the 38 of Matt Bourgoine and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu right behind. The drivers at the front were dicing it out for the race lead before Beaulieu went for a solo spin in turn three, bringing out the first and only caution of the race. During the caution period, Gray, running in second had to pull off with an oil leak, ending his hopes of winning early.

For the start with 14 laps remaining, Buffington got the jump on Bourgoine. While there was a mad dash for the second spot, Buffington was able to pull away just a bit over that battle between Bourgoine and the 79 of Max Zachem. As the final laps ran incident free, Buffington once again added to his dominance at NHMS, taking the win on Sylvania 300 weekend! Zachem was able to wrestle his way to second after starting deep in the field. Bourgoine ended up in third while the 59 of Reid Lanpher and the 20 of Taylor Martin rounded out the top five.

After post race inspection, Martin did not pass, handing the top five position to Beaulieu in the final rundown. While this race was not a NHMS or Nelcar points race, it was the final points race for the National Legends Points, which many drivers in the race were gunning for. The next race comes in just a week as the Tour will make it’s debut at Star Speedway on Saturday, October 1st. Racing starts at 6PM. Bourgoine Fights Back For 50 Lap Win At Beech Ridge

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for what is one of the biggest races on the Tour. 50 laps and $400 to win on the Pro All Stars Series PASS 400 weekend, it was set to be a great race as it always is. With drivers from as far away as New Jersey, the 23 car field took to the track knowing there was just two races remaining and time was running out to make a statement before the 2011 season is over.

Heat race number one started with the 10 of Ed Getty on the pole with the 8 of Matt Chagnot starting on the outside. Getty got the jump while the 88 of Steve Fox followed through to second. Just a few laps in, the 56 of Evan Beaulieu, the defending race winner, jumped to the outside and with a few laps remaining he grabbed the lead from Getty. Beaulieu took the heat win, with the 14 of Trevor Sanborn finishing second and the 38 of Matt Bourgoine finished third.

Shawn Buffington, who has dominated at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this season, started on the pole for the second heat race with the 25 of Larry Poirier on the outside. At the start, Buffington got the jump with the 51 of Todd McCollum finding his way to second. Just a few laps into the event, the 48 of Kendall Curit and Poirier made contact, resulting in a pile up of cars, but everyone continued on. For the restart, Buffington was able to get away and take the heat win over McCollum and the 27 of Kevin Hutchens.

For the 50 lap feature event, Beaulieu was on the pole with Buffington on the outside. On the start, Beaulieu got the jump with Sanborn following him into second spot. Those two got a healthy distance on the rest of the field as they dueled it out for the race lead. The first yellow came out 32 laps into the event for the 46 of Chad Harrington spinning after contact with Bourgoine. On the following restart, Beaulieu got the jump once again, and pulled away with the race lead as McCollum got around Sanborn for second with Hutchens and Bourgoine in tow. Beaulieu looked like he was cruising to another win when the yellow flag changed everything with just two laps to go for McCollum and Hutchens getting together with the 17 of Terry Kirk getting collected as well.

Beaulieu and Bourgoine were on the front row with a green, white, checkered finish before them. Beaulieu once again got the jump on the start, but Bourgoine drove the 38 car hard into the first turn and held strong on the outside. The two ran side by side, and Bourgoine was able to get enough of a run to take the checkered flag on the outside, his first win at Beech Ridge. Beaulieu, who dominated the race, had to settle for second with Sanborn finishing third. The 399 of Bob Weymouth quietly worked his way to fourth at the finish while McCollum finished fifth.

With the second place finish, Beaulieu is 119 points ahead of Bourgoine with just one points race left to go in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season. The next time the Tour hits the track though will not be for points, but it will be in front of a big crowd. Sunday, September 25th the Tour will be at New Hampshire Motor Speedway as the pre race event for the Nascar Sprint Cup Series Sylvania 300. The invitational only event will be a great race as the action starts at 10 AM. For more news, info and how you can get into a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Beaulieu Holds Off Hard Charging Bourgoine To Win At Unity Raceway!

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour returned to the Unity Raceway for the final time of the 2011 season this past weekend. With many of the newcomers in the tour who run very well at the rough track, they were going to do all they could to make their mark in the final race at Unity. For the series veterans however, they were just as competitive and ready for victory as well.

The 81 of Dan Winter was on the pole with the 49 of Pete Cannel on the outside of the front row for the first heat race. At the start, Cannel, who ran at Unity when it was a dirt track in the 70s, got the lead early and lead the first lap. The 27 of Kevin Hutchens however came from his midpack starting spot and took the race lead on lap two, and didn’t look back as he took the win. Matt Chagnot finished second with Winter rounding out the top three. After the win, a problem in Hutchen’s motor would end his night, keeping him from going for another Unity feature win.

For the second heat race, it was the 10 of Ed Getty on the pole with the 2 of Ryan Hammar on the outside. Hammar got the early race lead while Matt Bourgoine in the 38 made quick work of the traffic and got the lead at the halfway point. Going into turn one with a handful of laps left, the motor in Getty’s car expired, bringing out the yellow flag. On the next start, there was still oil on the track in the second corner, which resulted in Hammar spinning, collecting the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and the 17 of Terry Kirk. The safety crews got the mess cleaned up and Bourgoine was able to pull away with the win after the final restart. Weymouth finished second and Kirk rallied back to third.

Two of the tour’s top rookies, Winter and Hammar, paced the field to the green flag for the feature event. Hammar took off with the early lead, but Kirk was right on his tail trying to take the lead. The first yellow flew when the 25 of Larry Poirier went for a spin. On the restart, Hammar got the jump on Kirk and took the lead. The field wasn’t green for long however, as the 46 of Chad Harrington and the 33 of Alan Smith got together off turn two, collecting Winter. This restart, it was Beaulieu on the outside of Hammar. After slight contact off turn two, Beaulieu came out with the race lead. Just a few laps later, Poirier went for another spin off turn four, bringing out the yellow once again. On the restart, Beaulieu got the jump over the 399 of Bob Weymouth, but the yellow immediately flew as Hammar and the 59 of Reid Lanpher went for a spin in turn three. For what would be the final restart, Beaulieu got the jump once again on Weymouth, and pulled out with the lead off turn two. Bourgoine got second from Weymouth with a handful of laps left, and ran Beaulieu down for the lead. He made a few bids, but it wasn’t enough as Beaulieu took the win. Bourgoine finished second, with Weymouth in third and Kirk and Harrington rounding out the top five.

Just two more Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour races and the 2011 champion will be decided. Beaulieu currently holds a 70 point lead over Weymouth. Next weekend, the Tour heads to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for one of their biggest races of the season. The 50 lap National Qualifier, taking place on one of the biggest weekends in racing, the PASS 400 weekend. Racing will start Saturday, September 17th, at 5:45 PM. Buffington Back On Top At NHMS

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour headed to the final regular season oval race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend. The last time the series raced the oval, it was Tom Gray who found himself being the first driver not named Shaun Buffington, to find victory lane this season. Buffington however, was ready to go for another win here today. He also had points leader Evan Beaulieu and former Nelcar champion Max Zachem to compete with as well. It was set to be another exciting day for racing as the 17 car field roared to life on the quarter mile oval.

For the first heat, Buffington once again found himself on the pole after morning time trials. He was able to get the jump on Matt Bourgoine as Beaulieu followed him through. The heat race was incident free as once again, Buffington took the heat victory. Beaulieu and Bourgoine had a great race going with Beaulieu finishing second and Bourgoine in third.

Tom Gray was on the pole for heat race number two with the 79 of Max Zachem on his outside. Gray was able to get the jump, and with Zachem right on his bumper, the two ran each other hard throughout the heat. Gray was victorious in another incident free heat race, with Zachem finishing second and the 399 of Bob Weymouth in third.

Buffington started the feature on the pole with Gray on his outside. However, Gray’s car would not fire on the start and he was forced an early exit. Zachem moved to the outside of row one as the green flag flew. Buffington was able to grab the early lead, leaving Zachem and Beaulieu to fight for the second spot. Around the midpoint of the race, Zachem and Weymouth made contact in turn two, sending the 79 car for a spin and the first caution of the afternoon. The next restart had Buffington with a new challenger to his outside in Beaulieu. The two were able to distance themselves from the rest of the field, and just a few laps into this run, Bourgoine went for a spin in turn two running in the top five. The race had reached it’s halfway point and another restart was coming. This time however, the 33 of Alan Smith found the wall and ended his day early. At the final restart, Buffington was able to distance himself from Beaulieu, and get himself back into victory lane at the finish! Beaulieu finished second and Bourgoine was able to make his way up to third at the finish. Zachem and Weymouth rounded out the top five.

All Buffington needs to do when the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour heads to the next points race at NHMS, is start and he will be crowned the NHMS Legends Champion. Before that however, the Tour will be at NHMS for the Nascar Sprint Cup Series Sylvania 300, once again the pre race for the big race on Sunday, September 25th. The next time the Tour races will be at Unity Raceway this coming Saturday, September 10th. Racing action starts at 6PM! Tom Gray Takes Over At NHMS

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back in the Granite State this past weekend at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway once again for another exciting race on the quarter mile. With its tight turns and hard braking, it is without a doubt a very challenging track for the drivers to get accustom too. With 20 cars on the track things will get crowded in a hurry. Practice times as always determined the starting line up for the heat races and it was a few familiar faces at the front of the field.

Shaun Buffington in car 23 started on the pole with the 3 of Nick Ladyga on his outside for the first heat race. Buffington took off with the lead, but Ladyga was staying right on his bumper as he wanted the lead and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu right behind in third. Buffington and Ladyga swapped paint a few times in their battle for the win, but at the finish it was Buffington once again on top with Ladyga in second and Beaulieu in third.

For the second heat race, Tom Gray started on the pole with the 38 of Matt Bourgoine starting from second. The race went virtually incident free, as Gray pulled away with the win and Bourgoine finished second with the 59 of Reid Lanpher in third.

It was Buffington and Gray once again in the top spots for the feature, as they have been solid all season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, finishing in the top two spots in each race ran on the oval so far this year. The first caution flew on lap three when Lanpher went for a spin off turn four. Buffington was able to get back out to the lead on the next restart as he and Ladyga challenged each other hard as Gray, Beaulieu and Bourgoine were right in tow. At the halfway point, contact between Ladyga and Buffington sent the undefeated driver at NHMS for a spin, and Ladyga a penalty to the rear, giving opportunity to Gray, who inherited the race lead. After a few challenges from Beaulieu, Gray was able to hold him off and take his first win at NHMS! Beaulieu finished right behind in second, with Buffington coming from the rear of the field with just 12 laps left to finish third. Bourgoine and Ladyga rounded out the top five.

With the second place run, Beaulieu is able to grow his points lead to 61 points over Bob Weymouth in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour points, and Buffington still holds a 65 point lead over Gray. The Tour is off next weekend but will return to NHMS in two weeks on September 3rd. For more news, info, and how you can race at NHMS in one of the most fun cars to drive, visit Nelcar.net.

Sanborn Picks Up Win, Beaulieu Takes Thursday Thunder Championship

The Thursday Thunder series came to a close this past week at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. With just three points separating leader Kevin Hutchens and second place Evan Beaulieu, this was one of the closest battles for the championship that the series has ever seen. Along with the points battle, there was plenty of drivers who were looking for a win before the season ended. For the final time in 2011, the Legends took the track for what was set to be a fantastic close to the season.

For the feature, the 17 of Terry Kirk started on the pole with the 87 of Anthony Pagliarulo on his outside. Points leader Hutchens started from fourth with Beaulieu in thirteenth. At the start, Kirk took off with Hutchens right behind and the 05 of Jacob Dore running third. Kirk was holding his own on the inside keeping the field at bay while Hutchens was doing all he could on the outside to take the lead. The drivers up front were having a great battle for the lead when Hutchens and Dore made contact racing for second, sending them both in a spin and collecting the 2 of Ryan Hammar as well.

On the final restart, Kirk held the lead over new second place runner, Trevor Sanborn in the 14. The two ran each other hard side by side with Sanborn able to get his car out front. The Beech Ridge Pro Series regular was able to make his first trip to Legends victory lane as he took the win in the final night of Thursday Thunder. Kirk finished runner up, with the 88 of Steve Fox in third. Bob Weymouth finished fourth after a hard charge from his 21st starting spot. The championship fight wasn’t over until the checkered flag fell, as Hutchens drove back to the seventh spot at the end, but it wasn’t enough as Beaulieu got fifth with a handful of laps to go to secure the Thursday Thunder championship by just one point.

Another Thursday Thunder year has come to a close with another intense battle for the championship that showed two young drivers, who were just rookies in this division a few years ago, show off their talent in front of thousands of fans, and through ten races it came right down to the last lap. Another young up and coming driver was honored after Thursday’s race as well with Ryan Hammar being presented as Thursday Thunder rookie of the year. Now, the titles still left up for grabs are the overall Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour championship and the New Hampshire Motor Speedway championship, with their next event coming this Saturday, August 20th. Bourgoine Dominates For First Win At Unity

As the season heads into its final run to decide the champion, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends tour was back at Unity Raceway this past weekend for another thrilling event. As many of the top drivers in the series were set to start from the rear of the field, others who have yet to win were running out of time to do so, and tonight was a perfect opportunity to shine in the Unity lights. With 14 Legends Cars taking to the rough and tough track, the fans were treated to another great race.

For the first heat race, it was the 2 of Ryan Hammar on the pole with the 10 of Ed Getty to his outside. On the start, Getty used the preferred high line to his advantage as he grabbed from Hammar. As Getty pulled away, the 27 of Kevin Hutchens was on a march to the front and he took second from Hammar with just a handful of laps to go. He got to the back bumper of Getty and made a bid for the lead with one to go, but it wasn’t enough as Getty held on and took the first heat victory. Hutchens was second at the line with Hammar rounding out the top three.

In the second heat race, the 33 of Alan Smith was on the pole with the 38 of Matt Bourgoine on the outside. Once again the outside groove was the place to be, as Bourgoine drove to the lead with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu right behind. Bourgoine was able to drive away with the second heat win as Beaulieu finished second with the 30 of Ed Field in third.

As the sun set over the 3/8th mile track, the field took to the track for their feature event. It was an all rookie front row with the 81 of Dan Winter starting on pole with Ryan Hammar on his outside. As the field went green, Hammar got the early lead, but Bourgoine came from his fifth starting spot to take the lead early as he began to pull away from the field. As he was pulling away, Hutchens lead Beaulieu, Field and the 399 of Bob Weymouth on their way up through the field from the rear. When they got into the top five the first caution fell around the half way point for a solo spin from the 59 of Reid Lanpher in turn four.

When the field got back to racing, Bourgoine got just enough of a jump on Hutchens to clear him going into turn one and took the outside groove. It was a spectacular race up front as Bourgoine tried to hold off both Hutchens and Field as Weymouth and Beaulieu sat behind ready to pounce on a mistake from the top three. As Hutchens worked the bottom groove, Bourgoine was able to use the outside line and fend off the challenges, as he took the checkered flag for the first time in his Legends Car career. Hutchens made him earn it and wound up second, with Field in third, Weymouth fourth and Beaulieu in fifth. Bourgoine’s first victory comes after finishing right behind the drivers he was racing with tonight many times at Unity, as he had been so close to victory lane, making his first win just that much more special.

The points race is very tight with as the season is now in its closing stages and there are not many opportunities left to come out and see the best racing in New England with the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour. The next stop for the tour will be at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Thursday, August 11th. Hutchens and Beaulieu are locked in a heated point’s battle for the Thursday Thunder championship and with five points separating them with two races left, it is set to go right down to the final lap to decide the champion. Jacob Dore Takes First Win of 2011 At The Ridge

With just three Thursday night races left to go, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for round seven of Thursday Thunder. As the season is in its final stages, the racing on the track and the competition has never been better. With the first eight Beech Ridge races provided only two repeat winners, and many great finishes, tonight was set to be another great event. For just $4 to get in the stands, the fans were treated with yet another thrilling race.

The 13 of Connecticutt driver Carl Blandina was on the pole with the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig on his outside. At the start, Blandina got the lead. The action didn’t go long before the first yellow was flown on lap two for Braunschweig going for a spin in turn two, collecting the 1 of Aaron Lewis, and ending his night early.

On the next restart, Blandina was able to break away from the field but the 10 of Ed Getty was breathing down his neck in second spot. The front two got away while the 27 of Kevin Hutchens and the 05 of Jacob Dore were able to get up to the front and joined the fight for the lead while the 59 of Bob Weymouth, the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and the 30 of Ed Field worked their way from the rear as well right behind. With just a handful of laps to go, Getty was able to work his way under Blandina for the race lead, but his lead didn’t last long as Dore forced a hole on the final lap and got around Getty in turn three on the white flag lap. Dore beat Hutchens by inches at the finish to grab the Modified regular his first Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour win since his last full time season in 2007. Hutchens was second while Beaulieu snuck into third. Getty fell to fourth at the finish with Field rounding out the top five.

With his runner up finish, Hutchens gained just three points over Beaulieu in their tight points battle, leaving their gap at just five points with two races remaining. Terry Kirk sits just 53 points behind in third place, waiting for the top two to slip up. With just two races left, the racing action will only get better and with Hutchens and Beaulieu coming from the rear, you won’t want to miss next week. Beaulieu Back Into Title Fight With Win At Beech Ridge

The sixth round of Thursday Night Thunder took place this past week for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour. Under the hot mid summer sun, 20 of the best Legends Car drivers New England has to offer took to the track and with the points race still very close, and the season past its midpoint, there is no room for error. Plenty of wrecks for the title contenders have plagued the past few weeks, but this was a new week, and another chance for somebody to get right back into the points race.

Veteran Steve Fox led the field to the green flag with the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig on his outside. Fox was able to get out to the race lead with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and the 27 of Kevin Hutchens, both drivers at the top of the title contention, right behind him. Fox held the bottom groove as Beaulieu kept looking low to make something happen, but he couldn’t get under as Fox held strong at the front and the top four drivers pulled away with the 5 of Bob Weymouth sitting fourth. At the midpoint of the race, the 2 of Ryan Hammar got spun around in the middle of the pack and he climbed the dirt banking on the inside of the track, bringing out the first caution. Hammar was able to get out of the banking and continue on.

On the restart, Fox led the field but Beaulieu was strong in the outside groove. The duo lead the next six laps side by side, inches from each other and even touching at times. As the field rolled down the back straightaway with six laps to go, Beaulieu was able to take the lead. As the field continued to race hard behind him, Beaulieu checked out and took his second Thursday Thunder win of the season. Fox held on for second, Weymouth finished fourth with David Garbo in the 86 in fourth and Hutchens rounding out the top five.

Kevin Hutchens still has the points lead, but Beaulieu closed the gap to just two points with the win. Terry Kirk is sitting back in third, with another strong run from the rear to finish 8th, just 38 points behind. Anything can happen and with three races still remaining, it likely will happen. If you haven’t gotten to Beech Ridge yet this season, time is running out! The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will be back next Thursday, August 4th for found seven of Thursday Thunder. Tickets are just $4 and the action starts at 7PM! For more news, info and how you can get into a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Buffington Goes Six Straight At NHMS

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway this past weekend for race number fourteen on the schedule. After a caution filled race last weekend, the Tour was much tamer this weekend. The goal for everyone was the same though, to unseat Shaun Buffington from the top spot, as he came in undefeated in NHMS Legends competition so far this season. As the sun set on the tight quarter mile, 20 of the best Legends Car drivers in New England took to the track for some more tight racing.

The heat races were determined through practice times, and by just one one-thousandths of a second, Shaun Buffington edged his team mate Tom Gray for the pole spot in the first heat. Lined up on his outside was the 3 of Nick Ladyga. At the start, Buffington took the early lead. He wasn’t really pressured for the lead, as he drove off with the win. Ladyga finished second with the 5 of Bob Weymouth finishing third.

For the second heat race, it was Gray on the pole with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu on his outside. At the start, the two were even going into turn one, but Gray was able to pull ahead off turn two and take the lead. This heat was much like the first one, clean and green as Gray pulled away with the win over Beaulieu and the 11 of Stephen Miller.

For the feature event it was the team mates Buffington and Gray on the front row. That’s how it would stay for most of the race as the two long time Legends competitors took off and pulled away from a race for third between Ladyga and Beaulieu. This time however, Buffington was not able to get away from his team mate, as Gray was all over the rear bumper of Buffington for the race lead. Throughout the feature, the two drivers were neck and neck the whole time with Gray looking under Buffington multiple times. It wasn’t enough however, as the race ran clean with no cautions and Buffington held off his team mate for the victory. Gray was the runner up with Beaulieu in third rounding out the podium. Ladyga and Weymouth rounded out the top five.

After five NHMS points races, Buffington holds a 44 point lead over Bob Weymouth. The racing was great as always on the tight quarter mile and the drivers are getting well adapted to the track’s challenging conditions in preparation for their next big race there during the Nascar Sprint Cup Series Sylvania 300 weekend on September 25th. Garbo Becomes First Repeat Winner At Beech Ridge

Round five of Thursday Night Thunder at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway took place this past week on July 21st. Through the first four weeks, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour has seen four different winners, would there be a new face in victory lane once again tonight, or would we see a repeat winner? The points race is close as well, while both Kevin Hutchens and Evan Beaulieu have had one bad race each, there is no room for error as the season is at its halfway point. It was a hot day at the track and 20 Legend Cars took to the track for their feature event.

On the pole was the 1 of Aaron Lewis with the 48 of Kendall Curit on his outside. At the drop of the green flag, Lewis took off with the lead with Beaulieu moving into second and the 17 of Terry Kirk in third. It didn’t take long for the action to heat up on the track, on lap two the 30 of Ed Field and the 33 of Alan Smith made contact racing for fifth position. The contact resulted in Smith going for a spin and collecting the 399 of Bob Weymouth, the 05 of Jacob Dore, 8 of Matt Chagnot and the 29 of Charlie Buxton, ending their nights early.

On the next restart, Lewis got out to the lead once again with Beaulieu, Kirk and the 88 of Steve Fox right behind. Field however, was making the outside work on the slick race track and he was able to work his way into the top spot, and a few laps later, last weeks winner David Garbo in the 86 worked his way into second. Those two took off and settled the race on their own. At the finish of the 25 lap feature, Field was able to barely hold off Garbo for the win! Lewis was third with Kirk in fourth and Hutchens rounding out the top five.

Through post race tech, Field was disqualified from the event, giving Garbo his second straight win, the first repeat winner at Beech Ridge this season. After six Beech Ridge points races and just four to go, Kevin Hutchens gained another three points over Evan Beaulieu, as just 14 points separate the two long time competitors. Terry Kirk sits in third, just 23 out of the lead. The next Thursday Thunder is next Thursday, July 28th. Racing starts at 7PM and tickets are just $4. Buffington Takes Lenox 301 Pre Race Win

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was on the big stage this past Sunday, July 17th. They were the opening event for the Nascar Sprint Cup Series event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. 21 of the best Legends Car drivers hit the quarter mile for what was one of their biggest races of the season. There was just a ten minute practice session to get the cars ready for the race, and the practice session doubled as qualifying for the feature. Tom Gray in the 18 car was the quickest, while the 23 of Shaun Buffington, who has dominated NHMS this season in Legends competition, on the outside of the front row.

When the 20 lap feature went green, Gray was able to drive off in the lead with the 21 of Sandro Vitelli fighting Buffington for the third spot. Those three and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu were able to get a little distance from the pack that were being a little rough on the tight track behind them. The first real incident of the race came on lap four, when the 4 of Peter Craig spun out of turn four and the 13 of Carl Blandina and the 38 of Matt Bourgoine. On the next restart, Buffington was able to get the race lead from his teammate, but he wasn’t able to open any distance as the field up front was tight. The field was able to run a few green flag laps, and the final incident came when Blandina spun and collected the 17 of Terry Kirk. This set up a green, white, checkered finish with Buffington up front and Vitelli on his outside. At the start, Buffington was able to get away and Gray was able to slide his way into second, leaving Vitelli and Beaulieu to fight for third. At the checkered flag, Buffington once again reigned victorious. Gray finished second to give their team a 1-2 finish, with Vitelli coming in third, Beaulieu in fourth and the 59 of Reid Lanpher in fifth.

After a post race tech issue, Lanpher was disqualified, giving the 2 of Ryan Hammar the fifth position. The race was a hit with the fans as they enjoyed watching the Legends Cars have a thrilling event before the big show. The next time the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour hit the track is next Saturday, July 23rd. The tour is also at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Thursday, July 21st for the fifth round of Thursday Thunder. Garbo Makes Trip Worth It, Wins At Beech Ridge

Round four of Thursday Thunder took place this past week with another thrilling event as always. In the hot summer sun, the action on the track was set to be more intense than it ever had been. There was quite the mix of drivers in the pit area as well, with many drivers coming up from Connecticut to run with the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour regulars. The drawing was over and the positions were set, the 21 Legends Cars took to the track under the setting sun for their feature event.

On the start, it was the 8 of Nelcar rookie Matt Chagnot on the pole with the 10 of Ed Getty on the outside, and he was able to take the race lead over Chagnot. There was very aggressive racing going on behind the leaders. On lap four, the 56 of Evan Beaulieu was making his way from the rear of the field to the front when contact behind the 38 of Matt Bourgoine and the 33 of Alan Smith resulted in Beaulieu being spun into the backstretch wall, putting a halt to his championship hopes and ending his night early.

For the next restart, Getty was able to once again pull away. Behind him however, the 399 of Bob Weymouth went for a spin along with the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig, bringing out the second caution of the evening. Getty pulled out to the lead once again on the next restart, while the action was still hot behind him. The 13 of Carl Blandina was racing three wide when he spun around and the 17 of Terry Kirk and the 81 of Dan Winter made heavy contact, but were able to continue and no yellow flag was flown. Meanwhile, on his way to the front was David Garbo in the 86. He was able to pass the 27 of Kevin Hutchens for second, then the 10 of Ed Getty for the race lead. He pulled away and took his first win at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Getty finished second, Hutchens third, the 05 of Jacob Dore was fourth with the 29 of Charlie Buxton rounding out the top five.

After post race tech, Dore was disqualified for not reporting straight to tech, moving everyone behind him up one spot in the final finish. After five Beech Ridge points races, Hutchens leads Beaulieu by just 11 points and just 24 ahead of Bob Weymouth.  Next Thursday is round five of Thursday Thunder and with just a handful of races left and the points this tight, nobody can make a mistake in their run for the championship.  Racing starts at 7PM and tickets are just $4.  For more news, info and how you can get into a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Weymouth Charges To Unity Win

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back at the rough and tough 3/8th mile Unity Raceway for what would sure to be another thrilling event. Going into the event, defending champion Bob Weymouth held the points lead over Evan Beaulieu and Terry Kirk, which with the two year end throwaways given to each driver for their worst two finishes, makes this to be a very interesting battle for the points lead. While the three title contenders were in their own battle, the rest of the field was ready to go for a win at Unity Raceway.

For the first race, it was the 10 of Ed Getty on the pole with the 81 of Dan Winter on the outside. Going into turn one on the first lap, the hood pin on the Winter’s machine failed, leaving him with the hood right into his windshield, ending his heat race early. For the next restart, Getty was able to grab the lead in front of the 59 of Reid Lanpher. Meanwhile coming from the rear was the 30 of Ed Field, looking for another heat win at Unity. He caught Getty on the final lap, and made the pass in turn three. At the finish, Getty tried to sneak back underneath but it wasn’t enough as Field took home the heat win. Getty was second while the 83 of Troy Talman finished third.

The second heat race rolled on to the track with the 49 of Pete Cannel on the pole with the 2 of Ryan Hammar on the outside. On the start, Hammar took the early lead while they were dicing it up hard for second spot. The 33 of Alan Smith, the 38 of Matt Bourgoine and Cannel rubbed fenders three wide off turn two with Bourgoine able to grab second. He was able to get around Hammar and cruise to yet another heat race win at what he calls his home track. Beaulieu rallied for second while Hammar rounded out the top three.

The 16 Legends Car field hit the track for the feature event next, and it was a thrilling race. On the start, pole sitter Ed Getty shot out to the early race lead, and he opened up a good straightaway lead on the rest of the field as he looked for his first win of 2011. While the field was in a mad dash for positions behind him, the 46 of Chad Harrington had to check up suddenly and spun going into turn three, ending his day early. On the next restart it was Getty and Weymouth on the front row, two of the longest running Legends drivers in the field. Weymouth used the preferred outside groove to his advantage as he took the race lead, but Getty wasn’t going to back down as he stuck with Weymouth for the lead while the Talman, Beaulieu, Field and Bourgoine were on their way to the front behind them. Getty had his hands full for second, and Weymouth was able to stretch his lead out, and take home the win, his second of 2011. Beaulieu hardly edged Getty for the second spot, while Field and Talman rounded out the top five in a thrilling finish.

After the race, Weymouth stretches out his points lead over Beaulieu as the season starts to reach its halfway point. The next race is this coming Thursday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for autograph night at Thursday Night Thunder! Tickets are just $4 to get in. Next weekend however, is one of the races that each driver has circled on their calendars, New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 16th in front of the big Nascar Sprint Cup Series crowd. Racing is slated to start around 10 AM. Be sure to come early to the Nascar race to see some of the next big stars and some of the best Legends drivers in New England in what is sure to be a very exciting event. Beaulieu Grabs Lead Late, Wins At Beech Ridge

The third round of Thursday Thunder at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour did not disappoint, as usual. 21 Legends Cars took to the track and they had a tough act to follow up after a great race last week. With Kirk, Hutchens and Dore starting at the rear, it would be interesting to see who would pull off the victory tonight.

The 88 of Nelcar veteran Steve Fox started on the pole with the 399 of defending Thursday Thunder champion Bob Weymouth on the outside. At the start, Fox was able to get the lead, but Weymouth held close to his rear bumper with the 30 of Ed Field right behind in third. Evan Beaulieu worked his way from his eighth place starting spot to third place by halfway. The top four got a little distance while the 1 of Aaron Lewis drove in fifth place with a good gap back to the rest of the field. Fox was holding his lead while Weymouth kept trying to make a move for the win. With ten laps to go, Beaulieu was able to work his way around Weymouth and with just four laps to go in lapped traffic, Beaulieu snuck under Fox for the race lead. He didn’t look back as Beaulieu cruised to victory lane in the caution free feature race. Fox was able to hold off Weymouth for second, while Field finished fourth and Lewis rounded out the top five.

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour has put on a great race in each of the three Thursday Thunder races so far this season at Beech Ridge, and more are expected as the season reaches it’s halfway point. With the win, Beaulieu moves to the top of the points standings, but there is plenty of racing left as the top drivers are close in the points and the competition is better than ever, with four different winners in the four Beech Ridge points races. The next Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour race is this Saturday, July 9th at the rough and tough Unity Raceway. Pit gates open at 2PM and the racing action begins at 6PM. Next week at Beech Ridge is autograph night, so get to the track to enjoy some great racing and get your favorite drivers autograph after the racing, the show starts at 7PM, tickets are just $4! Kirk Leads Wire to Wire And Takes First Win of 2011!

Every time the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour visits the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, there is bound to be a good show put on.  This past Thursday night was even better than most with some of the most aggressive and hardest racing ever seen out of the Legends Car drivers.  Normally, the cars that are open wheel for the most part are not supposed to touch without consequence, but tonight, the drivers were able to make it work, but run as clean as the tour is known for, running caution free.

At the start, it was the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig and the 17 of Terry Kirk on the front row.  When the green flag flew, Kirk was able to take the race lead as he pulled out to a straightaway lead with the 05 of past Nelcar champion Jacob Dore right behind.  While they ran each other hard for the race lead, a group of cars including the 1 of Aaron Lewis, the 13 of Carl Blandina and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu were on their way to join the battle for the lead.  As they got to dicing it out for the lead the 27 of Kevin Hutchens snuck his way into the top three while the 399 of Bob Weymouth got into the group as well.  While Kirk held strong at the front, Dore and Hutchens ran each other hard for second while Beaulieu ran on the outside for most of the final laps as they all tried to make something happen.  After three wide passes and beating and banging, all the cars crossed the line clean with Kirk, the tour’s president and one of the most respected drivers on the circuit, leading the entire race and picking up his first win since 2008!  Hutchens crossed the line second just in front of Dore with Beaulieu and Blandina rounding out the top five.

The fans loved the show the Legend Cars put on as always.  After just three points races at Beech Ridge, Hutchens leads the points by 11 markers ahead of Beaulieu and just 20 ahead of Kirk.  The next race at Beech Ridge will be next Thursday, July 7th.  Racing starts at 7PM and grandstand admission is just $4 and just $8 to get in the pits.  Next weekend the tour will be back at the Unity Raceway for another thrilling race as well, racing there starts at 6PM.  For more info, news and how you can get behind the wheel of a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Buffington Remains Undefeated at NHMS With Win on the Road Course

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back at the famous New Hampshire Motor Speedway this past week, once again turning right and left on the difficult road course. Not only was this a regular points race, but it was a National Qualifier for the Legends Road Course Nationals being held later this year. 26 Legends Car drivers, mostly oval regulars, took to the track for what would be an excellent race.

Practice doubled as qualifying, along with a random invert afterwards. Once the invert was drawn, it was the 99 of Mike Alton on the pole with the 38 of Matt Bourgoine on the outside. When the green flag flew, Alton was able to take off while the 23 of Shaun Buffington, who so far is undefeated at NHMS, moved to the second spot early from his sixth starting spot. Alton was able to lead the field around the first lap, but Buffington made his move on the second lap and took over the race lead. While Buffington was able to get away from the field, Alton, Bourgoine, the 56 of Evan Beaulieu, the 18 of Tom Gray and the 399 of Bob Weymouth were all locked in a tight battle for the second spot, one of the many battles on the track. The race was clean until lap eight, when the 6 of Joey Parker went off the track in “the bowl.” The incident would end Parker’s day early.

On the restart, it was Buffington still holding the lead with Beaulieu lined up right behind him. The two stayed locked together through the first half lap until the next yellow came out for the 20 of Taylor Martin and the 81 of Dan Winter getting together coming out of turn two. Buffington held onto the race lead while it was Beaulieu, Bourgoine, Gray and Weymouth right behind.

Buffington was able to get away on the final restart, leaving Beaulieu to hold off Bourgoine and Gray for the second spot. During the final laps, Buffington made it known why he’s one of the best Legends Car drivers in the country as he was able to take home the victory and the granite trophy with it. Bourgoine made a bid on Beaulieu going through turn three, but Beaulieu was able to get back around and take the second spot. Gray finished fourth while Weymouth rounded out the top five.

Buffington was the qualifier in the Pro class, while Bourgoine got the Semi-Pro qualifier and Tom Gray was the Masters qualifier for the Road Course Nationals in the fall. The next Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour race is this Thursday, June 23rd at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for round two of Thursday Thunder. The next time the Tour heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway is on July 19th, the morning of the Nascar Sprint Cup Series race, which is guaranteed to be a great race! For more news, info, and how you can get in a Legends Car and race with the best, visit Nelcar.net.

Weymouth Takes Second Straight Thursday Opener

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back at one of the best race tracks in America on Thursday night, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for round one of Thursday Thunder! It was the start of the 15th year of Thursday Thunder, and the Legend Cars have been a part of the popular midweek event since the very beginning. 21 of the best drivers in New England were ready to race on the 3/8th mile oval, and as always, their show didn’t disappoint.

For the feature event, it was the 1 of Aaron Lewis and the 81 of Dan Winter on the front row. Lewis was able to grab the early race lead and pull away a bit before the 399 of defending champion of Bob Weymouth was able to grab the race lead. On lap three, the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig made slight contact running side by side for position off turn two, resulting in Braunschweig spinning, collecting the 2 of Ryan Hammar, the 17 of Terry Kirk and the 49 of Pete Cannel, ending Cannel’s evening.

For the next restart, it was Weymouth being able to get out to the race lead early and pulling away. The 10 of Ed Getty was in second place, right on the back bumper of Weymouth. Those two were able to pull away before the second caution of the evening came out on lap 13 for the 25 of Larry Poirer going for a spin in turn three.

It was Weymouth and Getty again on the restart, and once again those two were able to break away from the pack while the two veterans ran each other really hard for the lead. Behind them though, there way hard racing as the 14 of Beech Ridge Pro Series regular Trevor Sanborn, the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and the 27 of the most recent Beech Ridge Legends winner, Kevin Hutchens were on their way to the front of the field. As they cracked into the top five, the final yellow came out for the 5 of Gary Modugno blowing a motor.

The final restart of the evening was set with just five laps to go. Weymouth was able to jump out to the lead while Sanborn and Getty made slight contact for second, with Sanborn getting the position. Sanborn gave it all he had on the outside of Weymouth while Getty was able to sneak by and take second back. At the finish of the wild finish, Weymouth was able to take the victory with Getty finishing second and Sanborn third. Hutchens and Beaulieu rounded out the top five.

After an issue in tech, Sanborn was disqualified from the event, moving everyone behind him up one spot. This means that Weymouth, Getty and Hutchens will be coming from the rear next week for round two of Thursday Thunder. The next Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour race is this Sunday, June 19th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, on the road course once again. Not only is the race a National Qualifier for the Legends Road Course Nationals, but it also a part of the very popular Loudon Classic Bike Week. Hutchens Holds Off Late Race Charge To Win At Unity

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour made the trip up to Unity Raceway for the second straight race at the tricky oval this past weekend. It was set to be a great race with a mix of rookies and veterans in the field, with the top three from last weekend starting at the rear of the field, trying to make their way to the front in just 25 laps. The Unity stands were once again packed with eager race fans, the sun was out and it was set to be a great night of racing.

For the first heat race, it was a pair of rookies on the front row. Matt Chagnot in the 8 car started on the pole with the 81 of Dan Winter on the outside. On the start, Chagnot was able to grab the race lead, but the 10 of Ed Getty was not far behind as he moved around the rookie driver for the race lead. Getty was able to open up a bit of a lead, but the 27 of past Unity winner Kevin Hutchens was making his way to the front, and he got the lead just before the halfway point. Hutchens was able to pull away and take the heat win, with the 39 of Canadian driver Darren Sherwood in second and Getty rounding out the top three.

The second heat race quickly followed, with the 2 of rookie Ryan Hammar starting on the pole with the 49 of Pete Cannell, who is one of few drivers who have run Unity as both a dirt and asphalt track, on the outside. At the start, Hammar was able to get the race lead, but it wasn’t long before the 38 of Matt Bourgoine to make his presence shown as he took the lead with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu closely behind. In a replay of last weekend, Bourgoine and Beaulieu fought hard for the lead, but Bourgoine was able to get the win with Beaulieu finishing closely behind in second. The 399 of Bob Weymouth was able to round out the top three.

As the sun began to set, the Legend Cars took to the track for their 25 lap feature event. It was set to be an interesting start with the rookies of Winter and Chagnot on the front row. The two rookies fought hard for the lead, but Alan Smith in the 33 was able to make quick work and take the race lead shortly after. As Smith tried to pull away, Hutchens was able to make his way through the traffic and he grabbed the lead on lap five. The next lap, a bolt in the rear end of Smith’s car sheared off and sent Smith for a spin off the backstretch, bringing out to the caution flag and ending Smith’s strong run early. For the restart, it was Hutchens leading the field with Sherwood on his outside. Hutchens was able to get the lead as Sherwood tried to hold off Beaulieu, the two would fight for a few laps and Beaulieu got second, a straightaway behind Hutchens. As he began to reel in Hutchens for the lead, Bourgoine grabbed third and was reeling both of them in. The three drivers were in a dead heat for the final five laps as Hutchens worked his way through lapped traffic and tried to hold the two hard chargers off. As Bourgoine made a bid on Beaulieu for second on the final lap, Beaulieu tried one more shot at Hutchens, but it wasn’t enough as Hutchens grabbed his second win of the 2011 season. Beaulieu finished second with Bourgoine finishing third. Weymouth and Sherwood rounded out the top five.

After seven races, Weymouth still holds the points lead over Terry Kirk, but there is still plenty of racing to go this season! The next race for the Tour will be on June 16th at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the start of the popular Thursday Night Thunder! Gates open at 2PM and pit fee is only $8 with grandstand tickets only $4, racing starts at 7PM! For more news, info and how you can get behind the wheel of a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Beaulieu Wins Exciting Race at Unity

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour visited the rough and tough Unity Raceway this past weekend. The Tour has been coming to this track for the past few years and having experience at this tricky oval is one of the most important attributes to be successful on the track. The stands were packed, and the race would not disappoint.

For the first race, it was Pete Cannel, who ran at Unity back when it was a dirt track, on the pole with the 2 of rookie Ryan Hammar on the outside. At the start, Hammar was able to grab the lead around the outside as he took the 46 of Legends Car veteran Chad Harrington with him. Harrington made a bid at the lead, but lost control of his car through turn one and spun to the bottom of the track. No yellow flag was flown as he was able to get his car back on the track. Hammar meanwhile was driving away, and he was able to take home his first heat win in a Legends Car in only his sixth start. The 59 of Reid Lanpher finished second with Harrington driving back up to third.

The second heat race had the 38 of Northern Maine favorite Mathew Bourgoine with the 56 of recent Unity winner, Evan Beaulieu on his outside. On the start, Bourgoine was able to clear Beaulieu through turns one and two and had the early race lead. While Beaulieu ran Bourgoine hard on the inside in a bid for the lead, Bourgoine held strong on the outside groove. He had enough, as Bourgoine took the heat win. Beaulieu finished second while the 33 of Alan Smith took third.

The two young drivers would be able to have a rematch on the feature start, as Bourgoine started on the pole with Beaulieu once again to his outside. This time however, Beaulieu made the preferred groove on the outside work to his advantage as he took the race lead out of turn two. The roles were reversed from the heat race as it was Bourgoine who making a bid for the race lead. The two battled each other hard for the rest of the race as the race ran clean and green for the entire distance. With just a few laps to go, Bourgoine closed in one last time, but it wasn’t enough as Beaulieu took the checkered flag, his second win at Unity. Bourgoine one upped his best career finish to finish second, while the defending champion, who came from the rear of the field, Bob Weymouth finished third. Smith and the 17 of Terry Kirk rounded out the top five.

After six races in the 2011 season, Weymouth holds the points lead by 57 points over Kirk. The Tour is headed back to Unity Raceway next weekend on Saturday, June 4th. With the Nelcar rules, the top three, Beaulieu, Bourgoine and Weymouth, will have to come from the rear of the field next weekend. There will be plenty of excitement and racing will start at 6PM. Buffington Takes Vintage Celebration Win

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour took a right turn this weekend as 16 of the best Legends drivers in the Northeast competed on the 1.6 mile road course at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The first of two road course races for the tour came during the popular 21st Annual Vintage Celebration week at NHMS. While the drivers were used to only making left turns, the added challenge of turning right, and the over 100 mph speeds, made it a very exciting race.

The field was set through practice speeds, and Shaun Buffington, who has been dominant at the Speedway so far this year, and the defending winner of this race, was on the pole with his teammate Tom Gray on the outside. At the drop of the green flag, the two battled hard and going into the tricky first corner, Buffington was able to edge Gray and get out to the lead. On lap two, the 20 of Taylor Martin broke a rear end and went off course, ending first attempt at road racing early and bringing out the first caution of the race. On the next restart, Buffington once again kept his lead, while Bob Weymouth in the 399 drove up to second. The 33 of Alan Smith and the 81 of Dan Winter got together, resulting in Winter to spin, but it only brought out a corner caution as the field kept racing. Going into the closing laps, the 8 of Matt Chagnot, who was also making his first road course start, spun and got stuck in the tire barriers, resulting in the second full course caution. On the final restart, Buffington once again was able to get away, and drove off with his fourth win of the season, continuing his solid performance at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Weymouth would finish second with Matt Bourgoine in the 38 finishing third for his first career top three finish. Tom Gray in the 18 and Mike Alton in the 99 rounded out the top five.

With another great run, Weymouth holds his points lead in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour standings by 49 points over Terry Kirk. Buffington meanwhile leads the NHMS Legends points by just 16 points over Weymouth. Next weekend on Saturday, May 28th, the Tour will travel up to the challenging Unity Raceway. The rough and unique surface at Unity always brings great action when the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour comes to the track, and next weekend will be no exception. Racing starts at 6PM. Buffington Continues Dominance, Wins at NHMS

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back in the granite state this past weekend, at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The last time the tour showed at the quarter mile, it was Shaun Buffington who dominated the event and took home the checkered flag. If Buffington wanted to continue his dominance, he’d have to beat out some of the best Legends Cars drivers in the North East.

On the pole for the first heat race was Buffington’s teammate, Tom Gray. The 399 of defending Nelcar champion Bob Weymouth started on the outside. The field took the green and Gray got the early lead. On lap three however, the 59 of Reid Lanpher spun in turn two, ending his day early. Once the field got back to green flag racing, it was all Gray at the front as he took the first heat win. Weymouth finished second while Nelcar rookie Ryan Hammar took third.

For the second heat race, it was Buffington on the pole with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu to his outside. While Buffington was able to get away on the start, the field strung out and he made it look easy with taking the second heat win. Beaulieu was second with the 33 of Alan Smith finishing third.

Next up was feature racing. Gray and Buffington were on the front row and as the field took the green flag, they showed their dominance right away. While Gray took the early lead, it wasn’t long before Buffington would make his way around and take the race lead. Buffington, Gray and Weymouth would pull away from the rest of the field. It was clean and green and Buffington made it look easy, as he took his third win of the season and continued his dominance in Nelcar. Gray finished second, with Weymouth rounding out the podium finishers. Beaulieu came back from a tech issue in the heat race that forced him to start at the rear, to finish fourth with the 17 of tour president Terry Kirk rounding out the top five.

With another strong performance, Weymouth stretched out his points lead to 30 points over Kirk. Next weekend, the Nelcar tour is back at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but this time they’re doing a little more than just turning left. The Tour will be running the mile and a half road course on Sunday, May 22nd as part of the 21st Annual Vintage Celebration weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. It will sure to be exciting as many of the tour drivers are purely oval drivers and do not have much for road course experience. Buffington Dominates Nelcar's Return To Seekonk

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour traveled to Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts for the first time in over a decade and the first time the Legends Cars had ran there in six years. The small and rough track offered a unique challenge to the small and tough to drive Legends Cars and their drivers. With a lightning storm lingering in the distance and rain in the area, the teams ran through their three practices and the 21 Legends Cars took to the track for their heat races.

The heat races were lined up by practice times and it was Shaun Buffington on the pole for the first heat race with his teammate Tom Gray on the outside. On the start, Buffington jumped out to the race lead with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu moving around Gray into the second spot. As Buffington pulled away, Gray was able to regain the second spot from Beaulieu. With two laps to go, the 6 of Joey Parker made contact with the 33 of Alan Smith, sending Smith into a spin in turn three. On the restart, Buffington jumped to the lead with Beaulieu once again moving to second and in his tire tracks. At the finish though, Buffington took the win with Beaulieu finishing second and Gray rounding out the top three.

The 3 of Nick Ladyga paced the second heat race with the 13 of Carl Blandina on his outside. Ladyga took the early race lead with the 399 of defending series champion Bob Weymouth working his way into the second spot. While Ladyga drove away from the field, there was plenty of fierce battling behind him that made for some very exciting for the Seekonk fans. At the finish, Ladyga was able to get the heat win with Weymouth finishing second and the 30 of Ed Field finishing third.

For the 30 lap feature event, Buffington was ready to continue his dominance in Nelcar whenever he makes an appearance. When the green flag flew, a problem with the front end of point leader Evan Beaulieu’s racecar took him out of contention before the field even made it through turn two and brought out the first caution flag. With the next restart, Buffington was able to get back out to the race lead, but not without dealing with Ladyga closely behind. The field ran a hard race while Buffington started getting into lapped traffic while Ladyga started to close in. With just a handful of laps left, Blandina and Gray made contact, resulting in Gray spinning with the 12 of Scott Haag, the 10 of Ed Getty and the 87 of Anthony Pagliarulo involved as well, ending both Getty’s and Pagliarulo’s nights. On the following and final restart, Buffington was able to hold off the challenges of Ladyga and Weymouth and take the win. Ladyga was second while Weymouth held off the 83 of Troy Talman for third. After going to his backup car after the heat race, Ed Field rounded out the top five.

With the problems in the feature race, Beaulieu gave up the points lead to Weymouth, who now leads by just six points over Beaulieu and 24 points over series president Terry Kirk. Next weekend, Buffington will look to reign superior once again at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on May 14th. Many drivers will be looking to take the checkers from him though, and the only way you can see some of the most intense racing in New England is by being at NHMS, racing starts at 5 PM! Kevin Hutchens Steals Beech Ridge Win

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour returned the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this past weekend along with the popular Pro All Stars Series, and as usual, the race did not disappoint. 21 Legends Cars took to the 3/8s flat oval this past Saturday in what was a race that was much different than the aggressive and slick surface at New Hampshire Motor Speedway just two weeks prior. With the PASS Pro Stocks, there was plenty of grip being put down on the racetrack and the drivers kept their cool and put on another great show for the fans.

For the first heat race, it was the 38 of Mathew Bourgoine in his first race at Beech Ridge on the pole with previous Beech Ridge winner Kevin Hutchens on the outside. Bourgoine was able to jump out to the lead early on, but he was no match for Hutchens as he took the first heat win over the 83 of Troy Talman and the 48 of Kendall Curit.

Gary Modugno, who has driven just about everything with four wheels, was back behind the wheel and paced the second heat race with longtime veteran Ed Getty on his outside. Modugno was able to pull out from the field, but the 399 of Bob Weymouth lead the 31 of Bobby Timmons and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu through the field and they were able to reel in Modugno with a few laps to go. With just a handful of laps to go, there was contact between Modugno and Weymouth and Timmons was able to sneak his way by and take the heat win. Weymouth was second and Beaulieu finished third.

The feature was lined up based on the heat results and Hutchens was in charge of the 21 car field with Timmons on his outside. When the field went green, Timmons was able to use the outside line to his advantage as he shot out to the race lead. The top four cars, Timmons, Hutchens, Beaulieu and the 17 of series president Terry Kirk were able to pull away from the rest of the field. The race would run from the drop of the green flag to the checkered flag without a caution, and Timmons would not relinquish the lead as he crossed the finish line first. Hutchens followed close behind as Beaulieu finished third and Kirk fourth. Bob Weymouth, after having to start at the rear after the heat race incident, drove his way up to round out the top five.

After post race technical inspection, the 31 car of Timmons did not meet the specifications given, thus giving the win to Kevin Hutchens. After two races, Beaulieu leads the points standings by just 14 points over Hutchens and 26 over Weymouth. The next Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour race is this coming weekend, May 7th at Seekonk Speedway. It will be the tours first race at the Massachusetts track in over a decade and promises to be a great race. For more news, info and how you can get into a legends car, visit Nelcar.net.

Shawn Buffington Wins First Nelcar Race of 2011 in Dominating Fashion

The 2011 Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season got an exciting start to the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Half the field had already ran at the tight quarter mile when the series opened for the Nascar Sprint Cup Series last September, but the other half were a mix of veteran drivers and rookies who had never driven on this type of track. Many drivers describe this as the “most intense” Legends racing they had ever done and rightfully so, the race saw plenty of action and had a great finish. First up though was practice. Each team had a transponder hooked up to electronically get the lap times from the practice session, these times set the heat race field which would determine the feature race.

For the first heat race, it was the 23 of Shawn Buffington and the 61 of Chad Windsor on the front row. At the start, Buffington was able to get away leaving Windsor to battle with the 18 of Tom Gray and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu for second spot. Beaulieu eventually would be able to get around Gray and as Gray tried to hold off the 17 of Terry Kirk for fourth, the two made contact, resulting in Gray spinning out. On the final restart, Buffington was able to pull away once again, leaving Windsor and Beaulieu in a race for second. At the finish to the first heat, Buffington was able to take the win while after switching the second spot a few times, Windsor barely beat Beaulieu to the line for second.

The remaining 12 cars were set to race in their heat race next. The 3 car of Nick Ladyga started from the pole with defending Nelcar champion Bob Weymouth to his outside in the 399. The heat ran pretty clean for the most part as Ladyga was able to show that he was going to be tough to beat in the feature by taking the win. Weymouth held on for second while the 13 of Carl Blandina rounded out the top three.

The field was set for the first race of the 2011 Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season. Buffington lead the field down to the green flag and took off right where he left off in the heat. He was able to get an advantage on Ladyga and Windsor while Weymouth and Beaulieu battled behind. The first yellow flew on lap five as the 49 of Pete Cannell went for a spin in turn one, ultimately ending his day. Buffington was able to get away on the next restart and hold off new second place driver, Windsor. On lap 15, Ladyga lost control of his car running in third going into turn one and spun. This would begin a long period of restarts, with the field only getting one or two laps in at a time, and collecting contenders Beaulieu and the 27 of Kevin Hutchens in the process. The field calmed down for a run to the finish until Hutchens and the 33 of Alan Smith got together going in turn one and brought the yellow flag out, setting up a green white checkered finish. On the final restart it was the two veteran legends drivers Buffington and Weymouth on the front row. The two battled hard through the final two laps, but at the finish, it was Buffington holding on to take the win in the first race of 2011. Weymouth was second while Windsor made a three wide pass to take third. Beaulieu and the 31 of Bobby Timmons rounded out the top five.

With the win, Buffington writes his name in the Nelcar and NHMS record books as the only driver to win a Legends race on both the oval and road course at the famous New England Speedway. After the first of 26 scheduled points races, Buffington leads by just five points over Weymouth in both the Nelcar and NHMS point standings. The next race for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will be April 30th at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, in conjunction with the popular Pro All Stars Series. Exciting Season On Tap For Nelcar

The 2011 season is looking bright for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour. From a new venture into New Hampshire Motor Speedway, to a new race director and many new faces joining the series, it will be a great year for the popular touring division. Here are a few of the highlights for the 2011 season.

Jim Manchester, a longtime competitor in the tour, will step out of the drivers’ seat and into the directors’ booth as he will be race director for all Nelcar races. As race director, he will be in charge of communication between the race track and the tour itself and assist in making on track decisions with the race track. Along with Jim’s new role in the tower, any penalties assessed after races will be made public as well.

The tour will once again be the opening race for the Sunday Nascar Sprint Cup races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 17th and September 25th. There will be 25 Legends Cars to start the 20 lap features. The top 20 in the points’ standings for the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Legends Car races only up to that events date will automatically be in the race, with five provisional to be used at the tracks discretion. There will be a practice session during the morning with the feature slated to start around 10 AM during both events, subject to change due to time that may vary on that day. Registration for the races at NHMS will be on nhms.com shortly. It will be cheaper to register online than at the track. Keep checking back at Nelcar.net for more information.

The first practice of the season will take place at NHMS on April 2nd. The cost is $100 a car and that will cover all day testing, half of the day will be on the oval and half on the road course. A good chance to get your car out and put some laps in on the new track before the season starts. Also at the Speedway , there will be an open house on April 23rd and we are asking that competitors bring their own cars to show off and drive around the track to promote Legends racing as well.

The lineup will also see some changes as well this season. For the popular Thursday Thunder series at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, the drivers will draw for their positions, replacing the lineup by points procedure used in previous seasons. Along with that, the top three from the previous race will be at the absolute rear this season, behind the rookies and returning drivers who have been away from the series, who will be at the rear and evaluated by the race director and board of directors whether he can take his starting spot. The rookies will still be at the rear for their first three races then evaluated.

There will also be changes to the tour’s points’ system as well. You may now have two throwaways during the season, but they must be used at different race tracks to count. If you miss two races at one track, only one will be thrown away while the other remains a zero. The heat race points will change as well, as instead of one point intervals starting at ten, it will start at 30 and go down by two points each position.

Other recent news is the addition of a date at Seekonk Speedway on May 7th, the tour’s first trip to the Massachusetts ’ oval. AMB Transponders will be required for all races at NHMS and at Seekonk Speedway, you can rent them from the track or order your own from Terry Kirk. Convex mirrors will be permitted in 2011 as well. 2011 is looking to be a great season and there is plenty of time to get in a Legends Car before the season opener at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on April 16th. Visit Nelcar.net to learn how you can get into one of the most popular racing series in New England.

Hutchens Wins Final Nelcar Race, As Weymouth Takes Home Championship

The 2010 Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season has been a great one. With many different drivers, rookies and veterans, running at the front, it has been by far the most competitive season the Tour has experienced since it’s inception in 1994. It all came to a close this past weekend at Maine’s toughest track, Unity Raceway in Unity, Maine. The rough and tough track always poses a different challenge to the driver’s and their crew’s as it is one of the most unique tracks on the Tour. To top things off, the two drivers running for the championship would have to work their way from the rear of the field as Evan Beaulieu won the last Amsoil Nelcar Tour race and Bob Weymouth finished third. It was set to be yet another exciting night of racing!

Alan Smith in the 33 was on the pole for the first heat race with the 38 of Mathew Bourgoine to his outside. On the start, Smith was able to get the jump, but Bourgoine fought back on the proffered outside groove to grab the lead down the backstretch.
Ed Field in the 30 car started at the rear but was making it way to the front as he grabbed second early. He made a charge at Bourgoine for the lead but it wasn't enough as the rookie was able to grab his first heat win in Legends racing. Ed Field finished second with Alan Smith in third.

For the second heat race, it was the 31 of Bobby Timmons on the pole with the 29 of Tyler Jordan on the outside. Timmons was able to get the jump on the start and grab the race lead down the backstretch. From the rear were the two championship contenders, Bob Weymouth and Evan Beaulieu, trying to make their way to the front. At the finish, Timmons was able to grab the heat win. Kevin Hutchens finished second and Tyler Jordan finished third. Beaulieu beat out Weymouth at the line to make it an eight point race going into the feature.

Jordan was on the pole with Hutchens to his outside for the feature event. On the green flag, Hutchens made the outside work to his advantage as he took the race lead. It didn't take that long for the action to heat up as Weymouth and Beaulieu traded spots many times as they came up through the field. On the fifth lap, Jordan snapped an axle down the backstretch and spun down the track. As his car spun out of control, many other drivers’ were involved, including Terry Kirk, Carl Blandina, Kendall Curit and Beaulieu, who saw his championship hopes end in the accident. As the remaining cars took the green flag, Hutchens was able to get back out to the race lead. On his way to the front however was Bobby Timmons, and with just four laps remaining in the race he caught Hutchens and made his bid for the race lead. As he did however, the right front spindle snapped on the 31 car, forcing Timmons to retire from the event and bringing out the caution flag. For the final restart it was Hutchens and Field on the front row. Hutchens got the lead once again to hold off the veteran Legends drivers charge, and took his fifth feature win of the 2010 season! Field finished second, with Weymouth finishing third to take the 2010 Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour championship! Smith finished fourth with Bourgoine rounding out the top five.

Weymouth put on a burnout after the race in celebration of completing the local Triple Crown, the Maine state Master's championship, the Thursday Thunder championship and the Nelcar crown. Beaulieu finished out the year second with Hutchens in third. This race concludes what has been a great 2010 season with nine different drivers visiting victory lane over the course of the season. Next season looks very promising as well with many new faces getting into the excitement of Legends Car racing. The tour would like to thank their many sponsors and fans for their support throughout the 2010 season! Flannery Takes First Checkered Flag on NHMS Legends Oval!

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour another milestone event this past weekend. After the three years of closed door development, and just four months after the road course race, the Tour opened for the Nascar Sprint Cup Series race on the new Legends Oval. With 24 many of New Englands best Legends Car drivers set to do battle on the quarter mile oval, it was going to be a great opening to the best driver's in the world.

The starting field was set by times from practice. Anthony Flannery, the champion from Waterford Speedbowl, was on the pole with Nick Ladyga in the 38X on the outside. After a few attempts at getting the race started after a few spins, the field went green and Flannery jumped out the early lead. Early on the 13X of Paul Blenkhorn from Nova Scotia moved into second. The race didn't get many green flag laps consecutively early on, as the drivers were having a hard time adapting to the new track. The second half of the 20 lap feature however showed the field doing getting used to the conditions, and the top drivers, Flannery, Blenkhorn, Ladyga and George Whitney were battling hard to get the first Legends oval win. With just four laps to go, the yellow came out for the final time with Flannery and Ladyga back in the front two spots. While the field behind him was battling hard for every position, Flannery seemed to be in a league of his own up front, as he took the first checkered flag at the new Legends oval at New Hampshire Motor Speedway! Finishing in second was Nick Ladyga, with Whitney in third. Paul and Dylan Blenkhorn rounded out the top five. The first Nelcar regular was Bob Weymouth, finishing sixth.

While this track is much different than most of the drivers were used too, with heavy braking and hard, sharp corners, the driver's adapted well and put on a great show in front of the thousands of fans who packed the track for the Nascar race held later that day. This is only the first race at the Legends oval, and there is going to be many races held at the Speedway in 2011 under the Nelcar banner. The next race for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour is Saturday, September 25th at the rough and tough Unity Raceway. It is the Tour's final race of 2010, and with Bob Weymouth and Evan Beaulieu separated by only nine points, it is set to be a great race with the point's battle going right down to the final lap. Racing starts at 5:30 PM. For more news, info and how you could get into a Legends Car and race at NHMS in 2011, visit Nelcar.net.

Late Season Charge, Beaulieu Wins Beech Ridge National Qualifier

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour rolled into their eighteenth race of the season this past weekend at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. This race was one of the biggest events of the season for many reasons. Not only was it one of the last of the season, but it was a 50 lap National Qualifier for the Legends Nationals at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia, and also was a part of the biggest weekend of Pro Stock racing in New England, the PASS 400. With a tight point’s battle and plenty on the line, this had the makings of being a great race.

For the first heat race, it was the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig on the pole with the 1 of Aaron Lewis on the outside. At the start, Braunschweig was able to get out to the early lead, but the 48 of Kendall Curit, who was up most of the night before replacing the motor in his car after an engine failure during practice on Friday, grabbed the lead. He never looked back and took the heat win. Braunschweig was able to hang on to finish second, with Lewis finishing third.

In the second heat, the 88 of David Garbo Jr. was alongside the most recent winner on the tour, Evan Beaulieu in the 56 car. As the green flew, the two drivers drove side by side for many laps, but Garbo was able to make the inside line work. After a late race charge by the 29 of Tyler Jordan, Garbo was able to hold him off and take the heat win. Jordan finished second, with the 5 of Gary Modugno finishing third.

50 laps of Legends Car racing was next up, the 22 car Legends field took to the track with Garbo on the pole and Braunschweig on the outside after a rear end issue left original pole sitter Curit in the pits. At the green flag, Garbo got to the lead but Jordan wasted no time and made his move early to take the race lead. Coming from their seventh and ninth place starting spots, the 20 of Max Zachem and Beaulieu made quick work of traffic and found themselves first and second after just four laps and began to pull away from the pack. The field was clean and green until lap 17, when Braunschweig went for a spin in turn two.

The field got lined back up, and went green with Zachem once again getting the jump with Beaulieu and Jordan right behind. As the two leaders pulled away once again the 17 of Terry Kirk and the 31 of Bobby Timmons worked their way through the field and found themselves in third and fourth with a huge pack of cars behind them. The next yellow would come at lap 25 for a spin by the 49 of Pete Carnell in turn three.

At the next green flag, Zachem once again was able to jump out to the lead with Beaulieu getting in line in second with Kirk in third. This time however, Beaulieu was able to get his car underneath Zachem and take over the race lead on lap 33. The very next lap, Carnell and Jordan made contact mid pack, collecting the 10 of Ed Getty and the 33 of Alan Smith bringing out the third caution of the race.

For the next restart, it was Beaulieu on the inside with Zachem on the outside. Beaulieu got to the lead with Timmons being able to put his car in second with Zachem and Weymouth third and fourth. For the final laps, the four ran bumper to bumper, each just waiting for the right time to make their move. With two laps to go, going into turn one Timmons and Zachem made contact, with Timmons going for a spin. The green flag stayed out, and Beaulieu was able to get the win, his third win in the last four Nelcar races. Weymouth cleared through the dust and finished second, with the 71 of Reggie Leeman sneaking his way to third, Chris Sargent in the 21 fourth, and Gary Modugno rounding out the top five on a wild day of racing!

With the win, Beaulieu solidified his spot in the Legends Nationals in Virginia. The point’s race is only getting closer as well, with just nine points now separating first place Weymouth and Beaulieu for the championship with just one points race left to go. Next weekend, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will be racing the new Legends Oval at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 19th, the morning of the Nascar Sprint Cup Series race. Racing starts at 10 AM and is a non Nelcar point’s race. For more news, info and how you could get in a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Closing The Points Gap, Beaulieu Takes Win At Unity

After 16 races in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season, the tour was back at Maine’s toughest track, Unity Raceway. With just three point’s races remaining going into the race, Bob Weymouth held a slim 30 point lead over second place Evan Beaulieu for the championship, which is just 20 points after the throwaway. Both drivers had good runs at Unity, with Weymouth scoring a win earlier in the year, and with the championship so close, every position would be more crucial than usual. The fans packed into the stands, and were treated to a great night of racing by some of the best Legends Cars drivers in New England.

For the first heat race, it was the 29 of Tyler Jordan on the pole with the 10 of Ed Getty on the outside. When the green flag flew, the two drove side by side for a few laps before Getty was able to vault ahead using the preferred outside groove. With the rookie, Mathew Bourgoine in the 38 breathing down his neck and three wide racing for third behind them, Getty was able to hold on and score the heat win. Bourgoine fought hard but finished second, while Terry Kirk in the 17 got third in the three wide battle.

For heat number two, Bobby Timmons in his return back to Legends racing after his hard wreck last month at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway that left him in the hospital and a severe concussion was on the pole position with the 48 of Kendall Curit on his outside. When the green flag came out the two drove each other hard but clean, as they ran door to door throughout the heat race. With two laps to go, Timmons got clear of Curit and was able to take the heat win in his first race back. Kevin Hutchens, fresh off his win in the last Tour race at Wiscasset, finished second while Curit rounded out the top three.

As the field lined up on the frontstretch for the 25 lap feature race, Timmons was on the pole with Curit on his outside once again. This time, Timmons wasted no time and got the lead early, while Beaulieu and Weymouth moved into the top three early as well. Beaulieu made a few looks under Timmons, as the two drove hard for the race lead early. The caution flag flew on lap 12, as Kevin Hutchens went for a spin in turn two, setting Timmons back on the inside and Beaulieu on the outside for the restart. Timmons got the jump on the restart, but Beaulieu fought back in turn one on the outside. Going into turn three, Beaulieu was able to clear Timmons and take the lead. Timmons’ made a few more looks for the lead, but it wasn’t enough as Beaulieu pulled away at the end and took his first win at Unity and third of the season. Timmons had a great comeback night and finished second, while Weymouth was third. Bourgoine finished fourth to grab his best finish of the season and the president of the Tour, Terry Kirk rounded out the top five.

With just two races remaining and with the throwaway counting, Weymouth holds a 15 point cushion over Beaulieu. Next week is the Tour’s biggest show at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 11th. The race is a National Qualifier for the Legends Nationals at Langley Speedway in Virginia, and is alongside the Pro All Stars Series, and pays $400 to win as well. The racing will be sure to be great, with a stacked field of Legends drivers from all over New England and Canada expected. Racing will start at noon and tickets are just $15. Hutchens On A Roll, Takes Fourth Win of 2010

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour is getting closer to its finish, and the races only get more competitive as it winds down. The 16th stop on the season comes at Wiscasset Raceway, and 13 Legends Cars were at the track ready to do battle on Maine’s fastest Speedway. With just four point’s races remaining, many drivers are still looking for their first win of the season, while others are still in the thick of a tight point’s battle.

For the first heat race, it was the 46 of Chad Harrington, who got his first top five finish of the season in the last race at Wiscasset, on the pole with the 87 of Anthony Pagliarulo alongside. Harrington was able to get out to a good lead when the field went green and looked to get his first heat win of the season. Coming from the rear however, was Chris Young, who drove from New York to race, was able to get around Harrington and take the heat win. Harrington was second, with Terry Kirk finishing third.

In the second heat race, it was the 33 of Alan Smith on the pole with the 10 of Ed Getty on the outside. Smith was able to get out to the race lead over Getty, but the 72 of Kevin Hutchens was coming to make a charge. The two drove side by side for many laps with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and the 399 of Bob Weymouth, who both ran at Bethel Speedway in New York the night before, were right behind. With one lap to go, the 48 of Kendall Curit, who was making a pass for fourth place, spun in turn four, collecting Getty, and bringing out the caution and handing the heat win to Smith. Hutchens was second with Weymouth in third.

Pagliarulo was on the pole for the feature with Smith to his outside. The first start of the race was called off, and contact in the rear of the field after checking up between Beaulieu and Kirk left Beaulieu with the rear bumper broke off. Beaulieu was able to get a new one on and get back on the track to rejoin at the rear just as the field went back to green. Pagliarulo was hungry for a good finish after what has been a rough year for the Massachusetts driver, and he pulled away with the lead in the early stages. After starting in the fifth spot though, Kevin Hutchens was looking to make his way to the front, and was able to get around Pagliarulo to take over the lead. As those two opened up a distance over the field, it was a great battle for third spot, as four cars, Harrington, Weymouth, Beaulieu and Young were charging hard for the podium spot. The race ran incident free, and Hutchens was able to grab his fourth win of the 2010 season over Pagliarulo. In a three wide finish for third it was Harrington barely edging out Beaulieu and Weymouth for the third spot.

With just three point’s races remaining in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season, Weymouth holds a 30 point cushion over second place Beaulieu. With the win, Hutchens moved up to third in the points. The next race for the Tour will be at Unity Raceway on Saturday, September 4th, racing starts at 5:30 PM. In just two weeks will be the National Qualifier at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, as the tour is part of the PASS 400 weekend on September 11th. Beaulieu Wins The Battle, Weymouth Wins The War

After eight weeks of racing at the third mile Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, the New England Legends Sales & Service Legends Cars were ready for the final week of Thursday Thunder. Going into the event, Bob Weymouth, with two wins at Beech Ridge on the season, was 27 points up on a tie for second place between Bobby Timmons and Evan Beaulieu. Timmons was the feel good story of the night, as he was back at the track after his hard wreck last week. He made a lap for his points and expects to be fully recovered in three weeks.

As the field got set for the final time on Thursday night, it was the 29 of Tyler Jordan leading the field with the 48 of Kendall Curit on his outside. When the field went green, Jordan got a jump but Curit wasn't holding back as he hanged tough on the outside. On lap four, Curit was able to get the advantage, bringing Beaulieu along with him from his fifth starting spot. The next lap, Beaulieu was able to get under Curit down the backstretch and take the race lead. The lap after that, the 5 of Gary Modugno was boxed in traffic, and did a full 360 on the front stretch, and was able to get back going. The next incident was on lap twelve, when the 0 of Dustin Reynolds went for a spin but again, was able to keep going as the field stayed green. Back at the front of the field, Beaulieu still held the lead over Curit as the 21 of Chris Sargent was putting the pressure on Curit for second with Jordan right behind them. When the checkers flew, Beaulieu took his second win at Beech Ridge. Curit held on to second, Sargent finished third, Jordan fourth and Forest Boucher rounded out the top five.

While Evan Beaulieu did what he had to do and win the final race, it was not enough to beat Bob Weymouth in the final point’s standings, as Weymouth's seventh place finish was enough to capture the 2010 New England Legends Sales & Service Beech Ridge Championship. It's Weymouth's third championship in the popular Beech Ridge series. While Thursday Thunder is over, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour is not. Their next race is August 29th at Wiscasset Raceway. On September 19th, the Tour will be running the first ever race at the new Legends oval at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the morning of the Nascar Sprint Cup Series race. Hutchens Wins Third of Last Four

With just two races left to go in the 2010 New England Legends Sales & Service Beech Ridge division, 19 Legends Cars cluttered the pits at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and were set to do battle for the eighth time this season. Bobby Timmons went into the night just six points ahead of Bob Weymouth, but with Weymouth starting up front and Timmons at the rear of the field, it was set for the points to be shaken up once again.

With the 19 car field set, it was the 29 of Tyler Jordan and the 72 of Kevin Hutchens on the front row. When the field went green it was Hutchens who was able to get to the lead on the outside of Jordan and start to pull away from the rest of the pack. Coming from the fifth and sixth positions however, were the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and Weymouth right behind, as they worked their way to second and third at the halfway point. Beaulieu began to put the pressure on to Hutchens with just ten laps to go and the two former go karting champions did battle for the race win. However, while racing for the fifth spot with six laps to go, Timmons and the 0 of Dustin Reynolds made contact off turn four, sending Timmons hard in to the frontstretch wall. It was a scary moment for many at the race track, as Timmons was hauled off in an ambulance to a local hospital, but it appears that he will be okay and ready to race again shortly.

The field was set to make a green white checkered finish with Hutchens setting the pace in the top spot with Beaulieu set on the outside. When the green flag flew, the two drivers stayed door to door through the first two corners, but Hutchens was able to get ahead when the white flag flew. Weymouth made a bid through the last few corners, but Hutchens was able to hold on to take his first win at Beech Ridge and his third in his last four starts. Weymouth was second and Reynolds was third while Beaulieu dropped to fourth at the finish and Chris Sargent rounded out the top five.

With his second place finish, Weymouth now sits 27 points ahead of a tie for second spot between Timmons and Beaulieu. Next weeks race will be the last one, as the New England Legends Sales & Service Beech Ridge division takes to the track for the final time and a champion will be crowned. Don’t miss the action, next Thursday, August 19th. Racing will start at 7 PM and tickets are just $4! For more news, info and how you could get into a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Zachem Makes Last Lap Pass For Wiscasset Win

Legends Car racing at Wiscasset Raceway go way back. Since the start of the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour, they have been racing at Wiscasset Raceway. The tour was back once again this past Sunday with a sponsor, BDS Waste Disposal. With a stacked field of 18 Legends Cars ready to roll, it was set to another great day of racing at Wiscasset Raceway.

For the first heat race, the 87 of Anthony Pagliarulo started on pole with the 22 of Forest Boucher on the outside leading the nine car field to the green flag. When the field went green, Boucher was able to get the race lead, but had pressure from behind as the 46 of Chad Harrington was right on his tail. In the final few laps, Harrington was able to use his years of Wiscasset experience and pass Boucher for the win. Last year’s champion, Max Zachem was second while Boucher fell to third at the finish.

For the second heat race, it was the 33 of Alan Smith on the pole with the 10 of Ed Getty on the outside. As the two ran side by side for the first few laps, there was three wide action going on behind them as Evan Beaulieu, Kendall Curit and Tyler Jordan were racing hard right behind. Smith was able to get the advantage on the inside, and took the lead from Getty, but it wasn’t long before the 31 of Bobby Timmons found his way to the front, as he grabbed the lead with a handful of laps left, as the field was stacked three and four wide behind him. At the finish, Timmons took the checkered flag as Beaulieu finished second and Curit ended up third.

As the 18 Legends Cars took to the track for the feature race, it was once again Smith and Getty on the front row. Smith once again got the race lead as Getty got right behind in second, but the outside line was coming quick with last week’s winner, Kevin Hutchens leading Pagliarulo on the outside to catch Smith. He wasted no time as he got to Smith’s bumper, and Hutchens took the early race lead and started to pull away. Coming from the rear of the field was Timmons and Weymouth as they took the next two spots at the halfway. The field started to get strung out, but coming off turn four, Curit’s right front spindle snapped and he took a hard hit into the frontstretch wall, collecting Smith as well in the incident.

This tightened the field back up, as Hutchens and Timmons lead the field to the green flag. As the two ran side by side for the next lap, Weymouth right behind in third wasn’t wasting time, as he went low on Hutchens and made a three wide pass for the race lead with both Beaulieu and Zachem following behind. In the next lap, contact was made between Hutchens and Timmons as Hutchens went for a spin.

For the next restart, Weymouth and Zachem were the two on the front row in just a three lap shootout. The two ran side by side, and after Zachem was able to pull in behind in second, he stayed glued behind Weymouth. On the final lap going into turn three, Zachem was able to drive down to the inside of Weymouth, and the two went side by side and Zachem took the win by inches. Beaulieu was able to finish third, with Timmons right behind in fourth and Harrington getting his best finish of the season in fifth.

After the thirteenth race, Weymouth now holds on to a ten point lead over second place Timmons, with Beaulieu in third, 42 points behind. After a great day of racing at Wiscasset Raceway, the tour will head back to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this Thursday, August 12th for Thursday Thunder. Only two more races are left in the summer series, tickets are just $4 and racing starts at 7 PM. The next time the Legends Cars hit the road will be August 29th, once again at Wiscasset Raceway. Hutchens Double Dips In Groveton

After a rain out at Lee USA Speedway just two weeks ago, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was set for double features at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire alongside the Pro All Stars Series. The series hadn't seen the high banked quarter mile in over five years and only two drivers in the field, Ed Getty and Bob Weymouth had previous experience at the track. With beautiful weather and plenty of fans packing the seats, it was set to be a great day of racing.

For the first feature, the field had been set from heat races at Lee, putting Kevin Hutchens in the 72 car on the pole with the 56 of Evan Beaulieu on his outside. When the field went green for the 25 lap feature, Hutchens got the jump on Beaulieu and was able to get out to a lead while the 29 of Tyler Jordan grabbed second as Beaulieu was stuck on the outside line. The 399 of Bob Weymouth and the 31 of Bobby Timmons were right behind Jordan and got up to third and fourth as Hutchens was pulling away. Timmons was able to make up some ground and get around Jordan for second, and started to hunt down on Hutchens for the lead. He wasn't able to get to him in time though, as Kevin Hutchens crossed the line first for his first win in Legends Car competition. Timmons was second, while Jordan held off Weymouth for third and Kendall Curit finished fifth.

After the first feature, the drivers had to turn right around and get ready for their heat races for the second feature. After drawing in the drivers meeting, Jim Mayrand in the 15 was on the pole, while the 33 of Alan Smith, who had a new car he had to prepare just hours before getting to Groveton after a hard hit at Beech Ridge two nights before, was on the inside. Smith was able to get out to the lead, but had Weymouth right behind. While racing for the lead, Weymouth and Smith made contact while racing very hard as the 3 car of Adam Gage blew an oil line and brought out the yellow. When the green flag came back out, Hutchens was able to work his way around Smith with just two laps to go and grab the heat win while Tyler Jordan finished second and Weymouth drove back to third.

For the second heat race it was the 10 of Ed Getty and the 87 of Anthony Pagliarulo on the front row. When the field took the green flag, Getty got out to the early lead but Curit in the 48 car was right behind and was able to snatch the lead away from Getty. While both Timmons and Beaulieu were fighting with Getty for the second spot, Curit was able to grab another heat win. Getty held the two young guns off for second as Timmons was third.

Feature racing time, and Hutchens was looking to take off where he left off from the first feature. Early on he was able to get out to a healthy lead as Jordan once again drove in second. For the next 35 laps, the field stayed clean and green as Hutchens still lead over Jordan, Weymouth and Timmons. Hutchens was able to seal the deal and put a cap on the day with taking the second feature win and the kid who had yet to get into victory lane, found himself with two wins in just one day. Jordan finished second, as Weymouth held off Timmons in a hard battle for third, and Curit rounded out the top five.

The points battle is still close after 13 races and with only eight to go, it's getting to crunch time. Bob Weymouth's lead closes to just nine points over Bobby Timmons. Evan Beaulieu, who had to settle for two sixth places finishes, is now 43 points behind in third. The next race for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will be this coming Thursday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, racing starts at 7 PM and tickets are only $4. Next week the Tour will be back at the Wiscasset Raceway on Sunday, August 8th, racing starts at 2 PM. For more news, info and how you can get in a Legends car, visit Nelcar.net.

Sargent Leads Flag To Flag For First Win

Race number seven of the New England Legends Sales & Service Legends Car division at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway’s “Thursday Thunder” program was one of the most interesting and points shaking races the series has had in the 2010 campaign. Going into the event, the top three in points, Bob Weymouth, Evan Beaulieu and Bobby Timmons had just seven points between them. With Weymouth starting in the rear after his win last week, and Beaulieu and Timmons starting towards the front, it would be an interesting mix for the points with just four races left going into tonight’s race.

Chris Sargent in the 21 car had the pole for the feature, with the 29 of Tyler Jordan on his outside. Sargent had been close for the last few weeks to getting that win, but had yet to seal the deal. When the field went green, he got a great jump on Jordan and took off to the early race lead, with the 48 of Kendall Curit following right behind to take second. Not long after the green flag however, the 72 of Kevin Hutchens went around in turn one, bringing out the caution flag.

The field re aligned with Sargent in the lead and Curit to his outside, with Beaulieu and Timmons right behind. Sargent once again got out to the lead, but Beaulieu stayed right in his tracks. After some good hard racing between the two, Beaulieu was able to get a run on the inside of Sargent, and the two went side by side into turn one for the race lead. Coming out of two though, the two cars made contact, cutting Beaulieu’s right front tire and taking him out of contention for the win. Just a few laps later however, the 13 of Carl Blandina and the 33 of Alan Smith got together off turn two, sending both cars spinning and Smith hard into the backstretch wall. Luckily, both drivers were okay after the incident, as the field set up for a six lap run to the finish.

Sargent once again got out to the lead on the restart, as Timmons lurked in second. Timmons made a few bids for the lead, but had to be defensive as well as the 10 of Ed Getty was right behind in third. Neither could deny Sargent from his first win however, as he took the checkered flag! Timmons held off Getty for second, as the 0 of Dustin Reynolds finished fourth and the 48 of Kendall Curit rounded out the top five.

With the second place run, Timmons was able to grab the points lead in the New England Legends Sales & Service Beech Ridge Series with just three races remaining. Weymouth, who had a seventh place run coming from the rear, drops to second, but still six points back. Beaulieu however with his misfortune, falls 27 points behind in third. There’s still plenty of racing to go though, and the points are bound to shake up between now and the end of the season. Be there next Thursday, August 5th when the Legends Cars take to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway once again, racing starts at 7 PM and tickets are just $4. The next race for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will be this Saturday, July 31st at the Riverside Speedway alongside the Pro All Stars Series Tour, racing starts at 5 PM. Weymouth Completes Week Sweep At Unity

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour made their tenth stop of the 2010 season at “Maine’s Toughest Track,” Unity Raceway. The rough and tough track takes it’s toll on both the cars and the drivers, but it offers a unique challenge, with the outside groove being the smooth and fast groove, while the inside groove is rough but offers the shortest distance around the oval, and sometimes the only place to make passes.

The heat race showed the 48 of Kendall Curit and the 72 of Kevin Hutchens on the front row. Curit was able to jump out to the lead as the green flag flew, but it didn’t last long as the 31 of Bobby Timmons took over as the field went down the backstretch. However, on the next lap, the axle split on Timmons’ car, putting Curit back in the race lead. The point’s leader though, the 399 of Bob Weymouth, was fighting hard on the inside though to take the race lead, but couldn’t make it stick as Hutchens dove down to try as the 56 of Evan Beaulieu moved into third. Curit was able to hang though, and took his first heat win over Hutchens and Beaulieu.

For the feature race, Curit was back on the front row with the 29 of Tyler Jordan to his outside. Picking up right where he left off with the heat win, Curit jumped out to a sizeable lead early on, but Weymouth, who started third wasn’t letting him get away, as he started to close in on the first year driver. Coming from the rear of the field were Beaulieu, Hutchens and Timmons, and they were wasting no time on their way to the front. Back at the front, Weymouth was putting the pressure on Curit, and was able to sneak his way around and take the lead. As Weymouth pulled away, the battle was on for the second spot, as both Timmons and Beaulieu both took turns trying to get around Curit on the inside. At the finish though, Weymouth took the win and completed a sweep after his win at Beech Ridge just two days earlier. Curit was able to hang on to take his best finish of second, as Timmons settled for third, Beaulieu in fourth and Hutchens rounding out the top five.

After ten races, Weymouth increases his points lead by 12 over Beaulieu, and 24 of Timmons. There are still eleven races still left in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour season, and plenty of time for the points to shake up and many drivers to break into victory lane. The next race will be at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on July 29th, tickets are just $4 and racing starts at 7 PM. After that the tour will be having double features, after the race at Lee USA Speedway was rained out, at the Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire alongside the PASS Tour, racing starts at 5 PM. Weymouth Fights Back With Win In Round Six of Thursday Thunder

The New England Legends Sales & Service Legends Car division at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway’s “Thursday Thunder” program made their sixth start at the famed track, reaching the halfway point of their separate points for the races held at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Going into the event, Evan Beaulieu held just a slight one point advantage over Bobby Timmons in the points race, with former champion and series veteran Bob Weymouth sitting third in the points. With the points race that close, it’s certain it will go right to the final race, slated for August 19th.

The 21 of Chris Sargent, who grabbed a season best of third just two weeks ago, started on the pole with the 29 of Tyler Jordan on the outside of the front row. When the green flag waved, Sargent was able to get out to the lead with Forest Boucher in the 22 and Bob Weymouth in the 399 following. Weymouth was able to make his way to second and on lap five took the lead, leaving Sargent back in third in front of the 72 of Kevin Hutchens and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu. On lap 15 of the 25 lap feature, the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig went for a spin in turn two, bringing on the caution.

Weymouth was looking for his second Beech Ridge win of the season in hopes of closing in on Beaulieu and Timmons in the points race, and when the green flag flew again he got himself out to a pretty comfortable lead. Hutchens and Beaulieu were battling behind for the runner up position, when the 71 of Reggie Leeman and Timmons started to put on the pressure as well. At the finish, Weymouth was able to take his second Beech Ridge win of the season in dominating fashion. Hutchens held on to finish second, while Leeman got around Beaulieu for the third spot, with last weeks winner Timmons rounding out the top five.

With the victory, Weymouth took control of the points lead, holding a three point advantage over Beaulieu, and seven points ahead of Timmons. The points lead has changed hands the past three weeks, and the excitement will continue next week, July 29th at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, tickets are only $4 and the racing starts at 7 PM and ends at 9 PM. The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour hits the road once again this weekend for a stop at the Unity Raceway for the tenth race of the season. Racing starts at 2 PM. Timmons Grabs Third Win of 2010

Round number five of the New England Legends Sales & Service Beech Ridge Series was another great race. The points standings were close going into the event, with Bob Weymouth leading last week's winner Evan Beaulieu by only six points, as both drivers would have to start at the rear due to their top three finishes last week. Also in the field was defending champion, Max Zachem, who was involved in an incident at his last race at Unity, taking him out of contention to win. Combine that with the best drivers that New England has, it was set to be another great race in front of the Thursday night crowd.

When the 10 of Ed Getty and the 72 of Kevin Huthens brought the field to the green flag and the 19 car Legends Car field came screaming down the frontstretch, the battles were on. From his sixth place starting spot, the 31 of Bobby Timmons was making quick work on his way to the front, as he had the 71 of Reggie Leeman and the 5 of Gary Modugno in tow as those three pulled a little bit of a distance on the rest of the field. Coming through the field was the 0 of Dustin Reynolds, Zachem and Beaulieu, as those three did battle on their way to the front. With just a handful of laps to go, Weymouth and Hutchens made contact midpack and brought out the caution, setting up for a green-white-checker finish.

Timmons led the field to the green flag, and took off as he got a few car length lead while Zachem was able to move up to second place as the white flag flew. Zachem set up to the outside as they went down the backstretch, but it wasn't enough as Timmons was able to hold him off and grab his third win of the season. Zachem was second, Modugno third, Leeman fourth and Beaulieu rounded out the top five.

With five races in the books in the New England Legends Sales & Service Beech Ridge Series, Beaulieu takes over the points lead by just one point over Bobby Timmons, as former champion Weymouth sits third, just six points behind. The next race at Beech Ridge will be next Thursday, July 22nd, racing starts at 7 PM. The next race for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will be at Unity Raceway on Saturday, July 24th. Beaulieu Gets First Win In Round Four of Thursday Thunder

Race number seven for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour took place once again at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the fourth race of the New England Legends Sales & Service Thursday Thunder Series. Coming into the event, there had been three different winners in the first three races, and they all held the top three spots in points as Bobby Timmons held a slight point’s lead over Bob Weymouth and Forest Boucher. The race was set to be another interesting one as it always is with the Legends Cars.

On the pole for the 25 lap feature event was the 21 of Beech Ridge veteran Chris Sargent. On his outside was the 29 of Tyler Jordan, who unfortunately blew a motor in last week’s race, but got another in just in time to compete this week. The green flag flew and Sargent jumped out to the early race lead with Jordan in second and the 48 of Kendall Curit in third. Coming from the fourth and fifth starting spots were Evan Beaulieu and Bob Weymouth however, as they were both able to get around Sargent on lap seven and started to battle for the lead at the front when there was trouble behind them. On lap nine, Jordan and Timmons made contact mid pack and Timmons pounded the backstretch wall, collecting the 25 of Jim Manchester as well, both drivers retired from the event.

After the cleanup, the field went back to green flag racing with 15 laps remaining. Weymouth was able to pull out to the lead as Sargent overtook Beaulieu for the second spot. Beaulieu was not backing down however, as he got back around Sargent and started to hunt down Weymouth. On lap 17, Beaulieu was able to get his nose under Weymouth, as the two ran hard for the race lead. At the finish, Beaulieu was able to get a bit of distance on Weymouth, and picked up his first Legends Car victory. Weymouth held on to finish second, as the rest of the top five got their best finishes of the season, with Sargent in third, Ed Getty in fourth and Carl Blandina rounding out the top five.

With Timmons’ misfortunes, Weymouth takes the points lead in the New England Legends Sales & Service Thursday Thunder Series, as Beaulieu moved up to second with the win, only six points behind as Timmons dropped to a tie for third with Boucher, both within 19 points of the lead. The next race for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will be this Tuesday, July 13th at Lee USA Speedway, a companion race with the Pro All Stars Series Tour, racing starts at 7 PM. The tour will be back in action at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway next Thursday, July 15th, tickets are only $4 and racing starts at 7 PM. Boucher Wins Round Three of Thursday Thunder

After a rainstorm that came last week just minutes before the New England Legends Sales & Service Legends went on the track, the racing was called off and the teams had to wait more week for race number six on the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour. This past Thursday, after a few light rain showers the sun came out and the Legends Cars took the track once again. For their 25 lap feature, it was set to be an interesting night with both Thursday Thunder points leader Bobby Timmons and second place Bob Weymouth coming from the rear.

The start of the race would see the 33 of Alan Smith was on the pole with the 48 of Kendall Curit on the outside. When the field went green the two cars were side by side for the lead. On the third lap however, the 29 of Tyler Jordan blew a motor coming off turn four running in the fourth position, bringing out caution and putting Curit on the pole this time. On the restart, Curit got the jump and took the early race lead, but he had company with the 22 of Forest Boucher right behind him. As the field was three wide and jockeying for position behind them, Boucher was able to take the race lead with the 72 of Kevin Hutchens right behind to take second from Curit. Coming from the rear was Timmons and the 0 of Dustin Reynolds, as they had caught the front of the field. However, Boucher had already set sail and had a straightaway lead in front of Hutchens. With just three laps to go, the 25 of Jim Manchester and Smith made contact, sending Smith for a spin. The field stayed green though, as Boucher rode to his first win of the season over Hutchens, Timmons, Curit and Reynolds.

With the third New England Legends Sales & Service Thursday Thunder race completed, Timmons now holds a 13 point advantage over Weymouth, with Boucher in third only 15 points behind. The next race for the Legends will be July 8th at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the fourth race of the New England Legends Sales & Service Thursday Thunder Legends. The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour is off until July 13th, when they will compete with the Pro All Stars Series at Lee USA Speedway. Weymouth Wins On Wild Night At Unity

Race number five for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour took place alongside the Pro All Stars Series Tour at Unity Raceway this past Sunday. Throughout practice, it was the normal front runners who were fast, including Max Zachem, the defending champion, who found some time off from his modified to come race the Legends Car again. After practice however, the rains came. A rough thunderstorm blew through the Unity area, leaving the cars under wraps for three hours. When the rains finally let up, the track drying began, leading way to the two Legends Car heat races.

In the first of the two heat races, it was the 33 of Alan Smith and the 20 of Max Zachem on the front row. When the green flew, Zachem was able to get the advantage on the outside, the preferred groove at Unity. With about three laps to go in the heat race, it appeared that Zachem was going to be able to get the win, but his car developed an ignition problem, allowing Smith to drive by and take the win. Zachem was able to hold on to second over the 56 of Evan Beaulieu.

In the second heat race, the 72 of Kevin Hutchens was on the pole, with point’s leader Bobby Timmons on his outside. On the start, Timmons was able to make the outside work and take the lead from Hutchens. Hutchens was driving hard though, and was doing all he could to get around Timmons as the two had a great race for the heat win. At the finish, Timmons was the winner, with Hutchens right in tow and the 48 of Kendall Curit right behind in third.

With the delay of rain, the feature race was shortened to 30 laps. Smith and Timmons started from the front row, and when the green came out, Timmons was quick and got out to the early lead. Zachem was able to get his way to second and started to run down Timmons when the first caution of the day came out on lap eight for Smith, running third at the time, spinning off turn for. The 46 of Chad Harrington and the 17 of Terry Kirk were also involved. On the next restart with Timmons on the inside and Zachem on the outside, the two made contact going into turn one. Sending Zachem airborne and landing on the 10 of Ed Getty, with Beaulieu also being involved. Zachem and Getty’s days were done, while Timmons and Beaulieu were able to get their cars fixed and back in the race. On the restart it was Hutchens and the 399 of Bob Weymouth on the front row. Weymouth was able to get out to the race lead while the 38 of rookie Matt Bourgoine spun on the backstretch from his third place spot. With the field getting re aligned again, Weymouth was on the pole with Hutchens to his outside. Weymouth took the lead on the start with Hutchens right behind trying to get by. With eight laps to go, Hutchens got loose off turn four and spun down to the infield, bringing out the caution once again. This time it was Weymouth and Curit on the front row, and when the green flew, Timmons was able to get himself to second behind Weymouth as the two dueled for the lead in the final laps. With three laps to go, Timmons got himself loose off turn two, but was able to save it after going off the backstretch, but fell back to fifth spot, leaving Weymouth clear sailing to his third victory of the 2010 season. Smith was able to finish second and Beaulieu beat Hutchens by a foot for the third spot.

After the wild race at Unity, Weymouth, who was unable to make any of the practices earlier in the day and got to the track just in time for the heat races, was able to take over the points lead from Timmons and holds the lead by two points. The next race for the Legends Cars will be this Thursday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. The next scheduled race for the tour isn’t until July 13th at Lee USA Speedway. Weymouth Wins Round One of Thursday Thunder

Round number one of the popular New England Legends Sales and Service Thursday Thunder Series presented by ZMax took place this past week, and as always did not disappoint. After their first race at Beech Ridge in May, the Legends Cars already had points established for the “Beech Ridge Series,” which includes the first race from May, and all ten of the Thursday Thunder races as well. The New England Legends Sales and Service Thursday Thunder Series is also a part of the Amsoil Nelcar Tour as well, as the points gathered in the TNT Series go towards the overall tour championship.

This week’s races saw many storylines, between whether Bobby Timmons could come from the rear to get his second Beech Ridge win in a row, or if past TNT Champion Bob Weymouth would add another victory to his impressive Legends resume. Dustin Reynolds was making his return to Legends after a year off, and is always a factor at Beech Ridge. As the 19 car field got lined up for their 25 lap duel, only time would tell who would come out on top.

On the pole was the 25 of Jim Manchester and on the outside was the 33 of Alan Smith. When the green flag flew, Manchester was able to get out to the lead. Going into turn three on the first lap however, the 10 of Ed Getty and the 87 of Anthony Pagliarulo got together and spun up the track, bringing out the caution flag.

When the race was restarted, Manchester got back out to the lead once again, with the 48 of Kendall Curit and the 72 of Kevin Hutchens close behind. On lap three, Hutchens and Curit made slight contact, and Hutchens had to pit with a flat tire, relegating him to an 18th place finish. Manchester was able to open up some distance on the field, but Weymouth was coming in a hurry from his sixth place starting position. On lap seven, Weymouth was able to grab the lead from Manchester and started to pull away, while Manchester held on to second over the 29 of Tyler Jordan. Coming through the field from the 16th starting spot was Timmons however, as he made his way up to third and was fighting with Manchester for the second spot. When the checkered flag flew, Weymouth was able to take the win, with Manchester finishing a season high second, Timmons taking third, Jordan in fourth and Curit rounded out the top five.

After two races in the New England Legends Sales and Service Thursday Thunder Series presented by ZMax for the Legends Cars, Timmons now has a six point advantage over Weymouth, while Evan Beaulieu is 14 points back in third after his sixth place finish. The series next race will be Sunday, June 20th at Unity Raceway, a 35 lap feature as part of the PASS race weekend. The series is back at Beech Ridge next Thursday for round two of Thursday Thunder. Racing Sunday will begin at 3 PM and next Thursday at 7 PM. For more info, news and how you could be in a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.

Timmons Takes Second Win of 2010

After last weekends races at Unity Raceway were rained out, the third stop on the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour had to wait until this past weekend. With the series points lead in a tie between the tour's two young guns, Bobby Timmons and Evan Beaulieu, the season is setting up to have quite a battle between those two, and the past champion Bob Weymouth who sat only three points back. Two weeks ago, it was Weymouth who crowned victorious over Beaulieu and Timmons, as all three would have to come from the rear in this race.

When the field went to the grid for the heat race, the track was having some technical difficulties with the lighting system, so it was announced that there would be features only so the field was re aligned and got ready for their feature event. On the pole was the 48 of Kendall Curit and on the outside was the 72 of Kevin Hutchens. When the green flew, the two ran door to door for the first lap before Hutchens was able to get the advantage on the outside, the preferred line at Unity. The 33 of Alan Smith and the 29 of Tyler Jordan were able to follow through and hold the top three positions. On the march however were Timmons and Beaulieu, and when the first caution flag flew on lap nine for a spin by the rookie in the 38, Matt Bourgoine, they were running second and third behind race leader Hutchens.

On the restart it would be Hutchens on the inside and Timmons on the outside, with a ten lap race to the finish. When the flag flew, Timmons was able to get the advantage on the outside and take over the top spot from Hutchens. As Beaulieu and Hutchens battled hard, Timmons was able to pull away to take his second victory of the season. Hutchens held on to take second, Beaulieu was in third and Weymouth was able to get around Smith for the fourth spot.

After just three races there has been plenty of action, and it will only get amped up this week as the series heads to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the first race of the popular Thursday Night Thunder season. This season, the TNT races are included in the Amsoil Nelcar Tour points as well, giving the tour guys a little something extra to race for, leading to much more excitement on the race track. After the Thursday night race the series will head back to Unity Raceway for a 35 lap feature with the Pro All Stars Series Tour. Weymouth Drives Off To Win At Unity

Points race number two for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour came at Unity Raceway on Saturday, May 29th. “Maine’s toughest track” always pushes the limits of both their drivers and their cars, as 15 of the best Legends car drivers were set to do battle at the rough and tough Unity Raceway.

The field was split into two heat races, as Alan Smith in the 33 and Anthony Pagliarulo in the 87 would bring the field to the green flag in the first heat. Smith was able to get a good jump, and lead wire to wire in the 10 lap heat race and take the win. Pagliarulo was second and Jim Manchester in the 25 was third.

In the second heat race, it was the 48 of Kendall Curit and the 72 of Kevin Hutchens on the front row. Curit was able to open a lead on Hutchens as the 56 of Evan Beaulieu and the 31 of Bobby Timmons were coming through the field. On lap five of the heat race, Hutchens went for a spin off turn two, bringing out the yellow flag. When the green came back out, Curit got a good jump on Beaulieu who was on the outside, but off of turn two Timmons dove to the inside of Curit, as the they went three wide into turn three. Beaulieu would come out with the advantage and take drive off with the heat win over Timmons and Curit.

For the feature race, it was once again Curit on the pole and Hutchens on the outside. Point’s leader Timmons, Beaulieu, and the 22 of Forest Boucher would have to start from the rear of the field due to being the top three in the first race at Beech Ridge. Curit was able to once again get a good start and took the early race lead. Coming from his fourth starting spot however, was series veteran Bob Weymouth behind the wheel of the 399 machine, as he took the lead over from Curit on the sixth lap and started to pull away. By the halfway point of the 30 lap feature, Weymouth had a good lead over second place Beaulieu and third place Timmons, who had come from the rear and were hunting down Weymouth. Through the lapped traffic, the two were able to make up ground on Weymouth, but it wasn’t enough as the 2008 Nelcar Champion took his first win of 2010 in another caution free race. Beaulieu was second at the line with Timmons third, and Curit was able to hold on to fourth over the 29 of Tyler Jordan to get his best Legends finish.

After two points races, Bobby Timmons and Evan Beaulieu are tied for the points lead with Bob Weymouth only three points behind. The next race is scheduled for June 5th once again at Unity Raceway, and with those three coming from the rear behind some of the best Legends drivers, it’s sure to be a good show. Be there June 5th to see all the action unfold in the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour. For more info, news and how you can be behind the wheel of the popular Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net

Buffington Wins First Ever Legends Race at NHMS

When Bruton Smith, CEO of Speedway Motorsports Inc. and US Legend Cars bought New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Directors Terry Kirk and Todd Beaulieu of Nelcar knew this could be their step in the door to get Legends at the most popular racetrack in New England, New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Through many talks with the Speedway and hosting a Legends booth during Nascar weekends, they were making progress into getting Legends on the famed racetrack.  Now, two years later, the goal has been accomplished with the first ever Legends Car race at NHMS.  It was held on the 1.6 mile road course during the popular Vintage Celebration weekend.  For 15 laps, 16 of the best Legends Car drivers in New England took to the course, many with no prior road racing experience.  With the difficulty of many shifting points and turning both left and right, the drivers quickly adapted to the challenges and put on a great show.

During practice, which doubled as qualifying as well, for many drivers it was only their first time turning right in a race car.  While the tracks unique layout was tough on the drivers, there were only a few incidents throughout practice and the drivers were all confident that they were well enough adapted to the road racing to put on a good 15 lap show.  When the second round of practice was over, it was the 399 of Bob Weymouth who ran the quickest time through practice and would start his car from the pole position.  The 23 of Connecticut driver Shawn Buffington would start on his outside for the feature.  Both drivers had a history of road racing in their long careers of Legends Car racing.  2009 Nelcar Champion, Max Zachem would start from third with Tom Gray and Bobby Timmons rounding out the top five.

When the green flag came out, the 16 car field screamed by and Weymouth beat the field to turn one.  Things got jumbled up quick though, as Buffington had to detour through the grass to avoid wrecking.  That didn't slow him down however, as he got around Weymouth and led the first lap.  Zachem was coming in a hurry as well, as he was putting the pressure on Buffington before the first caution flag flew on lap seven, when rookie driver Jake Spillers took a spin in his 6 car.  When the green flag came back out on lap nine, Buffington once again had the top spot and held it in front of Zachem.  However, on the next lap Zachem finally got a run on Buffington and took over the top spot.  Buffington was able to get the lead back the following lap however, as the two were battling hard for the win.  There were many battles going on the racetrack as well behind the two leaders, as the 15 of Jim Mayrand and the 56 of Evan Beaulieu were racing hard for the sixth spot, and the 46 of Chad Harrington was coming up through the field after losing ground on the restart.  When the checkered flag flew, it was Buffington who was able to hold off Zachem and take the win in the first ever Legends race at NHMS.  Weymouth was third, Timmons was fourth and Gray rounded out the top five.

"The whole race control was going nuts over all the battles on the track," concluded Tom Blanchette, Director of Operations at the Speedway, and the one who put this show together, "There were three distinct battles going on spread out through the entire field, it was a real great race."  The first race at NHMS was in the books, and it was a successful one, with only one caution and many great battles and few incidents through the whole day.  There will be more details regarding the next race at NHMS in the coming weeks.  On behalf of Nelcar, we would like to thank Jerry Gappens, Tom Blanchette and the entire NHMS staff for having the Nelcar Legends as part of the Vintage Celebration week.  The next points race will be at the Unity Raceway in Unity, Maine, with Timmons, Beaulieu and Forest Boucher having to fight from the rear of the field under Nelcar's top three rule, it's got the potential to be a great race, as are many races at Unity Raceway.  For more info, news and points, visit Nelcar.net.

Timmons Wins Thrilling Season Opener

Race number one for the AmsOil Nelcar Tour was held at the series’ most prominent track, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. The series was set to go 35 laps around the 3/8s mile oval, part of the Pro All Stars Series weekend. Throughout practice, the early favorites were fast. Three time champion Bob Weymouth back behind the wheel of the 399, the hometown kid Bobby Timmons in the 31 and 2008 rookie of the year Evan Beaulieu in the 56. The tour's field of 18 cars would not disappoint the fans who packed in to Beech Ridge for a great day of racing.

First on the agenda were the ten lap heat races, split to nine cars in each. In the first heat race, it was series’ veteran Jim Manchester in the 25 and Chad Harrington, making his return to the series after a few years off, on the front row. When the green flag flew Manchester got off to a few car length lead before lap two when he got sideways and spun his car off the frontstretch, the field stayed under green and it was Beaulieu who took over the top spot. At the end of the first heat, it was Beaulieu taking the win with Weymouth in second and Timmons in third.

The second heat race showed the 87 of Anthony Pagliarulo and the 27 of Kevin Hutchens on the front row. The field ran green to checkers once again, as Kevin Hutchens took the win, with Forest Boucher in the 22 and Connecticut driver Tom Gray in the 18 right behind.

For the 35 lap feature, Beaulieu and Hutchens, both longtime karting veterans with many wins between the two, would pace the 18 car field of the best Legends drivers in New England. When the green flag flew, Beaulieu got a jump on Hutchens as he took the lead and Hutchens followed close behind. Beaulieu got himself a healthy lead in the early laps while Weymouth, Boucher, Timmons and the 23 of Shaun Buffington sorted their way through traffic behind him. At about a quarter of the way through the race, it looked as if any of the top six drivers had a chance to get the win. Timmons got up to second and set up a run on Beaulieu on the outside. The two would run side by side for many laps, fender to fender, as close as the two longtime rivals could push each other. With about ten laps to go Timmons got out in front off turn four and brought Boucher with him in traffic. Boucher made a run on Timmons, but it wasn't enough, as Timmons took home the first checkered flag of 2010. Beaulieu held on for third, while Weymouth and the 29 of Tyler Jordan rounded out the top five. The race got a great reaction from the fans, as they roared with applause while the top three climbed out on the start finish line after the caution free 35 lap feature, a great start of the 2010 season for the AmsOil Nelcar Legends Tour.

After the first race, Timmons holds a points lead while Boucher is four points behind and Beaulieu just six. The next stop for the tour is the 15 lap invitational at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on the road course, which will be the first ever race on the famed Nascar track. The race will showcase 24 of the best Legends drivers that the tour has to offer in a non points, winner take all event and will be a part of the Vintage Weekend Celebration at NHMS. The next scheduled points race for the tour will be at rough and tough Unity Raceway on May 29th. For more news, information and points, visit Nelcar.net.

Notes From The President

Hi guys
This month Terry bought Maine Legends dealership. The new name is New England Legends Sales & Service. Can be contacted either by email, or 207-353-2866. I plan to be at 600 the end of March so if anything is needed let me know, it will save on the shipping charge.

INEX has called me and has given NELCAR a sum of money for the points fund, there are a few requirements that need to be met, which we have covered. That means that if things go as previous years there will be $10,000.00 plus in the points fund.

The directors will be meeting soon along with drivers and members to update everyone; I will send date and would like a good meeting. As always input is welcome.

The wear bar rule on BFG’s has suspended as of now until new tires are in the system.

The new Federal Tires will be available to dealer’s on/about April 15th. The first shipment will be reserved for dealers only. Based on the dealer’s requirements, the second shipment may also reserved. The third (and perhaps part of the second) will be available to the public for sale. Shipments should be about 10 days apart.

We can reserve tires for you in our first order if you place your order now.

The good news is the Federals are slightly cheaper:
Retail
Federal 205/60R13 $95.00
Bear in mind that this can change!

Thanks, Terry Kirk
